Born in Copenhagen,
Denmark, son of one of the most famous goalkeeper of all time, Peter
Schmeichel, and still compared to his father, despite being passed his
30's and done enough to cement his own name in the "hall of fame" at
least at Leicester City.
Schmeichel was a signing done by former England manager Sven Goran
Eriksson, who was in charge at City for a year or so. He arrived at a
time when the Thai owners had just been at the club for a year and was a
certain first choice from his first day at the club.
During his time he was in goal when City were promoted back to the
Premier League, and also for the next seasons, remembering of course the
great escape and the Premier League winning season, also doing well last
season in the Champions League, reaching the quarter finals.
Leicester are known for bringing forward international goalkeepers and
Schmeichel is in great company with people such as Gordon Banks, Peter
Shilton, Mark Wallington and Ian Walker who all made great impact during
their time at Leicester.
Schmeichel has also established himself as a certain first choice for
his country Denmark, and looks certain to stay on at both club and
country for a number of more seasons being rated among the top 10
goalkeepers in the World.
