Pre-season friendly, Luton v Leicester 0-1, difficult to be in the

City dominated the game,
and Luton played the style of football foxes really enjoy the most.
It was a frustrating game with a late winner from Riyad Mahrez as
the only goal
City came out in a 4-4-2 formation, with a team
of players that should "drive over" a team from the 4th tier of
English football. Newly signed Eldin Jakupovic was in goal and to
keep a clean sheet is a good start, but he was hardly involved.
The back four had a day of a lot of involvement and stopped most of
the Luton attempts before they became chances. Simpson out to the
right, Maguire and Benalouane in the centre and Callum Elder playing
to the left.
Elder especially looked good against this type of opposition and
showed that he can play well to the left. But with both Chilwell and
Fuchs in front of him in that position he might be one to loan out,
or even sold before the season starts.
Shakespeare played Ndidi, Iborra, Musa and Albrighton in midfield.
Albrighton named captain and doing ok, Iborra had a shot, but
couldn't lead City as well as aspected, with Ndidi and Musa both
doing their job.
Musa played all 90 minutes and was involved in most of the offensive
creativtiy that led to a number of half chances, and he was also the
one setting up Mahrez for the winner. A good performance by Musa and
the best player on the field at Kenilworth Road.
Up front Ulloa and Okazaki never really found each other and the
fact that Vardy never entered the field might have something to do
with the fact that so little were happening.
City had a sort of chance early on, hitting the crossbar, but it
faded out and Luton worked hard and they pushed and pressed in a way
that made Shakespeare's men a bit stressed.
A few changes were made at half time, bringing on Drinkwater,
Slimani and Amartey coming on. Later in the game Morgan, King and
Mahrez gets their minutes. Lawrence gets on for Okazaki in the 72nd
Darnell Johnson and Christian Fuchs both comes on. Johnson makes his
Leicester City first team debut, the England U.19 international
comes on for Danny Simpson. Christian Fuchs replaces Callum Elder.
With Mahrez on the field things starts to happen and his "driving
force" makes it more of an attacking game. The positives from the
game must be of course that it's the 2nd win in pre-season, a clean
sheet, a number of players involved.
But all in all the game should have been "killed off" by City much
earlier and a 3-0 win would have been the real result if chances and
attempts had been effectively used and not wasted.
City are not a team used to be in the drivers seat, and all in all
considering the domination, the verdict must be, frustrating
Fans must of course be patient, but it's only 16 days left to decide
what team to field against Arsenal. The squad is not 100 % settled,
players might be leaving and we are waiting on one, maybe two more
signings before things are settled.
The next pre-season game is the one, away to MK Dons on Friday, we hope for
a better match performance by the City team.
Stats from the game, posession 41 % - 59 %, goal attempts 6 -
18, Big chanses 0 - 2, Offsides 1 - 4.
