Pre-season friendly, MK Dons v Leicester, no goals, few answers and
fringe exit talk

City played MK Dons
yesterday and again they struggled in front of goal. Ulloa played up
front alone, and he never got the service needed to score a vital
Heavy rain and the fact that City also play
Wolves today made this just a game to get minutes on the pitch. Not
ideal to have two games in two days, but again an oppertunity to see
players against a fairly good opposition.
MK Dons manager, former City player Robbie Neilson, was eager to
show his former employee and coach Craig Shakespeare that he knows
the game well and that he can make competition out of a pre-season
game v. City.
The game was one very tight with both teams having their chances.
The stats shows that City never dominated, but had a few more shots
from distance than Dons. Robbie Neilsson's team had lost their two
previous pre-season friendlies v. Szeged and Brentford.
Shakespeare played Amartey in central of defence, which is his best
place. Plenty of positives from the Ghana international who is
looking sharp when getting the chance alongside Yohan Benalouane.
Tom Lawrence is also getting a lot of praise from journalists and
fans watching the game. He was a treath and against opposition like
Dons he will always get it right. His form in the Championship last
season was good.
The decission for Shakespeare is to decide on keeping him for
another year, and give him a chance to flourish in the City team.
Sell and get a good fee for him. Brighton have, according to the
taboids, offered £ 8 million for Lawrence.
What about Ulloa. Playing up front alone in a 4-1-4-1 system. If or
rather when Iheanacho arrives, then Ulloa will be fifth in the
pecking order behind him, Slimani, Vardy and Okazaki. TCF believe
that Ulloa will be frustrated again and demand a move away.
Hamer was in goal, why ?, why didn't Jakupovic play ?. Will he be
involved today v. Wolves. Why are not Schmeichel getting 90 minutes
in every game played to gain 100 % fitness. The answers are few,
questions are many.
Darnell Johnson played at right back. He is a very talented player
and will give Danny Simpson competition. Chilwell played to his
level and is comfortable on the left. A good alternative if Fuchs is
out. Elder is a third cover on this position, playing from start
James and King played in the heart of midfield. A combination with
King and James should work ok, but they never managed to dominate in
a game against a League 1 side. Not a good test. Both are on the
fringe, and it looks as if James could be on the way out.
Derby and Birmingham are both reported to be looking at James.
Ipswich would also be an option, but his contract at Leicester is
one good, and to get that type of payment in the Championship might
be difficult. Barnsley, who had James on loan last season, could not
Demarai Gray got his first run out this pre-season and the lively
winger is eager to show his skills. Nothing wrong with his ambitions
but so far he looks a bit "wild". Can't really figure out Gray, but
his pace is a great weapon.
