Molineux nightmare, no positives,
Wolves v. Leicester 1-0
DATE: 29.07.2017 - THE CUNNING FOX - NEWSDESK
City players out there
at the Molineux grass got 90 minutes of what ? This was a very
frustrating display by City and with Slimani injured early on, that
was also another worry
You could go on, as Gerry Taggart did, talking
about City being a bit behind Wolves fitness wise, since they start
the season next week, but believe me a Premier League team, trying
to field their best 11, should do more than this.
Again what is this team without Riyad Mahrez, nothing. Mahrez was
the only one trying to do something and make a difference, but it
became difficult for him as well. A lot of questions to be asked.
Who are taking the free kicks, anyone who fancies a shot.
Christian Fuchs, Danny Drinkwater and Riyad Mahrez all wanted to
take them, but it looks unclear who should. Fuchs went on to take
one in the first half, Mahrez one in the 2nd half, none of them
resulted in anything.
Shakespeare fielded more or less the
starting line-up from last season, and he stuck to his plan to give
players 90 minutes of football. Results are not anything to bother
about in pre-season, but to be almost outplayed by a Championship
side is something to bother about.
Heavy legs might be a reason for the poor performance, few or no
work on match related matters, as much of the pre-season so far is
more or less about individual fitness than a team playing well at
City never managed to find out how to play against a Wolves team
that could be doing well in the Championship under new coach Nuno.
The former Valencia and Porto manager certainly made it difficult
for Shakespeare and his players.
The team selection was one that we all thought would bring out the
best in the City team, but the performance was below a level of a
Premier League team, and at this moment few answers were given.
So hopefully Shaky is not getting "shaky" at this moment. Getting in
a few more bodies and send someone out. Get this pre-season campaign
back on track against Burton and Gladbach, and forget this awful
Shakespeare wanted something from the game, but his change to a
3-4-3 never worked out and it almost backlashed with two great
oppertunities for Wolves in the end of the game.
The Tottenham game comes to mind, 1-6. That is a level of
performance that we never again will like to see from a City team.
Wolves could easilly had two or three, and that is not acceptable
even with heavy, heavy legs.
