Foxes summer shorts, Iheanacho confirmation close, again difficult
away, what is the future formula
DATE: 01.08.2017 - THE CUNNING FOX - NEWSDESK
Good news are that
Iheanacho is on the way in, after a number of terrible pre-season
friendlies and headache concern for Shakespeare, he has little time
to get a good performance out of the last game v. Gladbach
Shakespeare's team and system selections are not
easy to understand, and he also got a frustrating start to the game
away to Burton, with the home side being 2-0 up after the first
half. Both goals scored with terrible defending from City.
The team selection never really showed any plan, but just to get
bodies in shape and giving them playing time. But again most of the
players starting the game are first teamers and we should demand
more than struggling away to Burton Albion.
City started in a four, three, three formation. Jakupovic in goal,
Amartey to the right, Chilwell to the left, Benalouane and Morgan in
the central defence. Midfield, King, Iborra and James, up front,
Musa, Ulloa and Mahrez.
Seeing the line-up a few names are missing, such as Drinkwater,
Albrighton, Ndidi and Vardy. The team selected should not fall apart
against a Championship side and the individuals getting the starting
chance from Shakespeare, should honour it more.
If they are not good enough, that is one thing, but if they are not
battling that's another. Watching the players on the Burton goals
showed lack of commitment and that is not anything you should be
Hamer and Maguire came on for the second half. Gray and Ndidi a bit
later. Ndukwu and Johnson also got their chance. Things were better
in 2nd half, and Maguire scored City's goal after 66 minutes.
Unfortunately City were not able to score more and get a good result.
So what are Shakespeare up to. The simple fact is that he is losing
games against teams from a lower level, but again it's pre-season
and the team and system selection used are far away from the way
Shakespeare played in his first games of his reign as manager.
He tried to play with that team against Wolves, and things never
worked out well. The fact that Iheanacho is a City player, hopefully
by tomorrow, is great news.
The problem is that Shakespeare are trying to use the first team
pre-season games to please as many players as possible. Sadly, TCF
believe that all these games should have been used to monitor the
system, the City style of play and really hammered those oppositions
Losing games against Championship sides would only be good for
losing confidence, nothing else. TCF don't like what he sees at the
moment and "dr squad" must soon come in to balance up everything,
because now things looks messy.
Reading Mercury's article about things to improve and decide, you
start wondering what Shakespeare will do, and if it is to play the
team that was selected against Wolves, then why not work on that in
every game and use it as a practise.
You can if you like watch all highligts from pre-season games at "city-extra".
