Pre-season talk, who are doing what, what is going on, an all PL
DATE: 02.08.2017 - THE CUNNING FOX - NEWSDESK
confirmed moves, players coming and going, games played, training
sessions made, all of the PL teams prepare for that first day of the
season, we are close to the starting line
City started the pre-season in the best way
possible. A draw against West Bromwich and later a competetive game
v. Liverpool, despite losing the final of the PL Asian trophy
There are no excuses for losing football games, but so far the games
on english soil has not been in City's favour and only the game v.
Luton has ended in a win. Very few goals are scored, since Harry
Maguire and Riyad Mahrez are the only goalscorers so far.
Jamie Vardy came close against Wolves, but couldn't convert, and a
few other chances ended in nothing. Nothing to see of a pattern and
a lot of talk about players coming and going, the Iheanacho signing
dragging out, but hopefully soon confirmed.
Other clubs in the PL are also preparing and the results from their
games are very mixed. Liverpool looks strong in pre-season and won
all their games but one. They could not get more than a draw out of
the game v. Wigan, a third level club.
Crystal Palace and Huddersfield are two teams with a mixed
pre-season so far. Manchester City looks strong but had to see
themselves defeated by neighbour Manchester United.
Jose Mourinho is a man that likes to win and so far in pre-season he
has done excactly that, winning. They have won everything but one
game against Barcelona, so things looks in route at Old Trafford.
Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez must be satisfied with his pre-season
catch as well. But had to see his team lose against Mainz. Tottenham
is also mixed with two wins and two defeats.
Stoke are struggling, looking at heir pre-season results, losing
games against German BL2 team St Pauli and Crewe Alexandria. Swansea
and West Bromwich also have mixed feelings. Baggies defeats to
Slough and Bristol Rovers must be difficult, also just a draw
against Port Vale is not scaring anyone.
So looking at the results of other Premier League clubs we see that
it's a lot of mixed emotions and difficult to judge, and as said
before, the form and type of training done in front of games could
be a reason for results. The line-up picked can be, but hopefully
City will be more competetive when the season starts.
All the rumours flying around are all gossip, and where it comes
from few knows. Shakespeare are preparing a squad for the first game
and with the number he has to pick from, we would like to see new
additions getting games and doing well.
City are looking for new players, and we believe that one or two can
be added to the squad. Iheanacho looks like coming, medical is done
and he looks ok. This should be a good signing and the fourth of the
summer, talking first team players.
Rumours are that Drinkwater is keen on the idea to join Chelsea,
that Mahrez is eager to get a move to one of the six top clubs in
England, and as we speak James could be joining West Bromwich. Gray
could be joining Bournemouth.
Shakespeare knows that all players are under contract, but as we all
know in football everything can be bought if the price is right. The
price tag can also be changed depending on a number of criteria's.
From the outside we really don't know who are happy or who are
unhappy, but we can read from watching and reading how things are at
the moment. Hopefully "heavy legs" is a reason for recent pre-season
results and even the fact that the line-ups's playing looks random.
