The signing of 20 year
old Wales U.20 international George Thomas from Coventry, could be
one very exciting to follow and see how fast he will progress to the
Premier League schene
Thomas has a number of games under his belt at
Coventry, and has been a regular at League 1 level. He is also
scoring a great number of goals and can be described as an offensive
Of course this is one for the future and we all believe this season
will be spent in the U.23 team or out on loan if a team will come in
from him. City have, according to Talk Sport, paid a compensation
fee of around £ 500 000.
Coventry struggled in the league last saeson and had to face
relegation to level four of the English league pyramid. But in all
the darkness they won a trophy, and played at Wembley, with Thomas
scoring the winner in the 2-1 win v. Oxford.
Thomas came through the ranks at the Coventry City academy and
signed a full pro contract in 2014. He has since then played 53
games and scored 9 goals in total.
To see another exciting 20 year prospect sign for City just a few
days after another 20 year old, Kelechi Iheanacho coming in is very
exciting and this could be great value for money, with the player
being at the end of his contract with The Skye Blues.
Thomas is born in Leicester and will follow another former Coventry
player, doing the same. Jeff Blockley signed for Coventry as a
youngster, born in Leicester and then a few years later playing for
his home town club after a move from Arsenal.
His goalscoring ratio is impressive, especially on youth
international duty, scoring 10 goals in 24 internationals. We will
just wait and see how fast he will get a chance to shine under Craig
Shakespeare, but believe he will be pushing hard for a chance during
City will probably see a few players leaving before the season kicks
off and with a smaller first team squad to pick from Thomas could
come under recognision. He joins Sam Hughes who also joined this
summer from Chester for a fee of £ 125 000.
They are really stepping up chase in the market, not just for big
stars from the major clubs, but also tracking talent in the lower
leagues, and that is of course great to see and hopefully a new "Jamie
Vardy" story can be happening.
