We understand Harvey Barnes has joined
Barnsley on a season long loan, according to HITC. Last season he played in League 1,
on loan, at MK Dons, and this season he will step up and play in the
Harvey has shown great progress, penned a new
deal at City and is a great prospect. Hopefully he will be seen as a
first teamer at Barnsley and given time to play at a level that will
see him prepared for a real challenge next season.
He is allready capped at England U.18 level, and was among six
overaged players to take part in the Toulon Tournament this summer.
He has an impressive goal ratio, with four goals in five games.
So far has his chances been limited at City, but Claudio Ranieri let
him play a number of minutes in the Champions League away game v. FC
Porto. Last season he played 21 league games on loan at MK Dons, in
which he scored 6 goals.
Still only 19 years of age, and hopefully he can continue to show
great quality. This is a type of player that City needs to devlope,
a Kevin De Bruyne type of guy. Same hair colour and same hair cut,
hopefully soon Harvey can come close to the Man City also in the
He is one player that moves with the ball and can take on defenders,
pass them and make the crucial dribble both out wide and in the
middle, he can score goals and be that player that makes the
Riyad Mahrez is one simular as well, and if City can find players in
their own ranks ready to step in if the big stars moves on, then
great. Steve Beaglehole (the head coach of City's academy) has a
grand job to develope the next generation of City players.
A number of good players has been playing at the City academy, but
in a way would like to see more players develope and makes it in the
first team at the club. But as higher you get and as more
competetive things are, being a top 10 team in the Premier League,
it might be difficult.
Harvey Barnes is one player moving out on loan from the academy
system, Callum Elder is another. Elder will this season play for
Wigan at level three. There are of course a number of great talents.
The fact that the academy also goes out and buy players, bring in
players from abroad, shows the level of competition there will be in
such an inveroment. Sam Hughes, signed from Chester, and George
Thomas, signed from Coventry, are great examples.
Players such as Raul Uche and Josh Gordon are other examples of
players signed from other clubs. Uche coming in from Rayo
and Gordon signed from Stafford Rangers.
