Arsenal 4 Leicester 3, positives and negatives, player ratings and match report

DATE: 11.08.2017 - THE CUNNING FOX - NEWSDESK

What a firework game, what a fantastic Leicester City performance, 75 minutes were perfect, then things went totally wrong with tactical blunders and a number of ref faults of great importance

Arsenal took the lead from a goal after just 1,5 minute into the game. Their new signing Lacazette was on fire, but just minutes after Shinji Okazaki turned up and scored the equaliser.

City were up for it against a team that struggled a bit and had players out with injuries. Arsenal without most of their central defence and also without their top forward is a weakened team, and to meet them on this Friday afternoon would give you a fair chance.

Jamie Vardy made the most out if after scoring from a fantastic Albrighton curl. A just perfect ball from the former Villa man. He was one of the best players on the pitch and did a job to high excellence.

City were suddenly in the lead, but lost concentration towards the end of first half and Arsenal were back in getting an equaliser at a point in the game when you should sit back and be solid.

But again satisfied with the first half, coming back so fast and taking the lead and showing skills and workrate that was like the Leicester City team we love to see, counterattacking, always hunting the ball and getting those deadly strikes into the goal.

City got a great start to the 2nd half and took the lead from a fantastic Mahrez corner, perfectly timed by Vardy and for him personally it must have been a great start to the season, hitting two goals away to Arsenal, what a great start to the season.

TCF believe that Shakespeare made a tactical blunder when he put on Amartey for Okazaki and changed the formation. City lost momentum and Amartey struggled to find his place, but not in all his fault, but the change made City falling almost into the hands of Schmeichel.

Then another remarkable change from Shakespeare, taking of James. James played a good game and he combined well with Ndidi in the heart of the City midfield. Why he was taken off is a great riddle and Shakespeare again upset the team and structure.

Would have just made two changes in this game. Firstly taken off Okazaki and put on Iheanacho, then either taken off Mahrez or Albrighton for Gray, nothing more. The changes made upset everything and loss of concentration, made it possible for Arsenal to score two late goals.

To score three goals at The Emirates, which few does and never been done by Leicester before, makes it hard to take that you are getting zero points, especially being 3-2 up when 15 minutes left of the games.

The handball of Ozil also made it possible for Arsenal to score from a corner that also should have been a free kick for City, with Giroud using his hand and starting a restle game inside the penalty box. Seldom or never given anything for that, but Giroud should have been fauled.

The goal from Ramsey is of course a good goal scored, but City players were "watching the birds" instead of picking up their Arsenal players. This makes me wonder what captain Morgan was up to, he should have organised that better, much better.

So to sum up the game, here are our positvies and negatives, player ratings and match stats,

Positives:
Scoring three goals away from home
Vardy starting the season with two goals scored
Great and fantastic play leading to the goals scored
Schmeichel performance, World Class, despite letting in four goals, tells a story
All players doing fantastic in 75 minutes, let's get it done in 90 minutes
Coming back twice to take the lead, great battle attitude
Matty James impressed and showed that he is quality, strong performance and comeback in the Premier League

Negatives
Giving away the lead and all points after being in full controll for 75 minutes
Strange tactical manouvers from Shakespeare, taking of James and Okazaki, changing formation
Players coming in, not really contributing much and weaken the team, Iheanancho and Amartey
Letting in four goals, two of them "taking candy from a child"
The Ozil handball and Giroud attack on Maguire, not seen by Dean, bad referee
Four defeats, two draws and just two wins in the last eight games

Player ratings:
Schmeichel 9, Simpson 7, Fuchs 6, Morgan 6, Maguire 7, James 8, Nididi 7, Albrighton 8, Mahrez 6, Vardy 9, Okazaki 7
