This was a must win, any
other result would have been a disapointment. City had good controll,
took an early lead and never looked back. A very important win and
one secured in the best way possible
City scored the first goal after only a minute or so. A great
dribble run by Mahrez and his shot was stopped,
but Shinji Okazaki was there to score the goal when the goalkeeper
let it go out of his hands.
This was of course a great reason for City to controll, and the team
looked settled in the known 4-4-1-1 system. First half was a bit
back and forward but it was probably no big chances missed and it
was a day of dong what is needed.
Brighton never looked a treath and as the commentators mentioned,
the new players at Brighton had a bit of problem with the pace of
the action and lost the ball a lot, tackled by the City players, and
especially Wilfred Ndidi made his mark in the centre of midfield.
Second half was another transport, with Harry Maguire making his
mark in his home debut. Another assist from Mahrez, and a great
header from Maguire settled the score, 2-0. Mahrez never gave the
Brighton defenders any rest and made his best performance for a
The team fielded against Brighton was one who is very settled, and
keeping the structure is very important when you have players out.
Fans often believe you can change system and players and without
working on this on the training ground you will be "out cycling".
This is not FIFA play station, and to see Shakespeare doing things
as planned is very pleasing, and it shows that he knows what works
well. James had a great game v. Arsenal and today not at that level,
but that will be expected when being out for so long.
Shinji Okazaki made his mark again, scoring two goals in two games
is just fantastic. He is really looking like the forward people
would like to see, scoring goals. His work rate when not having the
ball is one of the best seen by a forward on the planet earth.
Vardy worked hard, but today was a bit taken out of the game, and
also a bit out of position, going out wide at times to get involved,
but all in all great work rate and of course keeping the Brighton
Mahrez made the most of this and if he can continue to play in this
way, clubs will probably go higher with their bids, but again very
important to get his head back on track and just concentrate on
Leicester City, because he is on a long term contract.
