Man Utd 2 - Leicester 1, positives and negatives, player ratings
and match report
DATE: 26.08.2017 - THE CUNNING FOX - NEWSDESK
A new and difficult game
as we all predicted, but again great credit to the Leicester team
for hard work and sad to see that it all ended in a new away defeat,
getting nothing from Old Trafford
Manchester United was as predicted the team that controlled the game
in the first half, but a good and steady City defence made good
clearances and showed carachter.
The pressure continues, but it never looks very threatening
as the attempts from Man Utd never looks very dangerous. City are
well balanced and the team performs as well as we would like.
Mahrez is fresh and try to do a bit for himself and makes a
number of great dribbles and looks comfortable on the ball, but it
never becomes any danger as the first half fades in to "the sea",
and we all are of course see this still as a 0-0 draw.
With the type of pressure Man Utd has in the first half, Mourinho
might not be too happy with his players, but he continues with the
same team and the pressure continues, but City should be credited
for trying to a play a bit.
Early into the 2nd half Man Utd are rewarded with a penalty, after
Danny Simpson makes a crucial error and his handball results in a
given penalty. He was not closely up in his opponent and the shot
reaches his arm which is not into his body.
To see Lukaku going for the penalty makes it easy to believe that
this is an easy goal for Man Utd, but a certain Kasper Schmeichel is
not ready to give away anything and he saves the misplaced shot. A
great save and still 0-0.
After this Ciy are slowly winning more and more posession, and we
all believe it will be possible to get something out of the game,
even a win looks possible at times. with Riyad Mahrez getting into
the box and really put pressure on the Man Utd defence.
Why Craig Shakespeare makes two substitutions after 60 minutes is a
major riddle. Things were working brilliantly and there were no need
for changes, at least not offensive substitutions. Gray and King are
both players with an attacking style and not really seen as
TCF believe that the changes made were not needed and not really
understanding the idea at all. Again formation is a bit changed,
players are changed into positions that they are not used to and
things starts to slide again.
City are pressed back again, and 10 minutes after the substitutions
we are 1-0 down. A goal from Marcus Rashford, who came on,
surprisingly not starting for Man Utd, makes it less understandable
why the substiutions were done.
City are losing out on set pieces again, with no one marking
Rashford. Vardy is the one closest to Rashford, but this type of
error is based on structural changes and the fact that a player like
Albrighton no longer is on the field is a direct result of that
A new error occure and despite this goal being an offside, it is not
good enough, and after 83 minutes, City are 2-0 down, and the game
is lost and because of management errors in organising the team in
the 2nd half.
King came close in stoppage time, but a great save from De Gea makes
the day complete for Man Utd and another bad away game for City,
without any points, but of course a number of positives. Credit to
the team, they never collapsed and that is ok to see.
So to sum up the game, here are our positvies and negatives, player
ratings and match stats,

Schmeichel world class, with a great penalty save
