To start your time as
manager with a win in the first game, and at the same time making
tactical changes that worked wonders, that is good management by new
man Claude Puel
At Southampton and several other places he has
been, giving youth a chance has always been something Puel has done,
and the same happened today, starting with the England U.21 duo,
Demarai Gray and Ben Chilwell.
Marc Albrighton and Shinji Okazaki were both on the bench, with
Riyad Mahrez moving into a role just behind Jamie Vardy. You get a
lot of pace when giving Gray a chance, Chilwell is a Bale type of
player, and we just have to wait for him to flourish in full.
Maybe a tall order to call him that, but he has a lot of quality
that we will see more of if he is continued to be played in midfield
and hopefully he can start a good relationship with Christian Fuchs
on the left side of the field.
Everton never really threatened City at all in the first half, and
when started the most beautiful counter attack ever seen in the
Premier League to date, with a run and quality pass from Gray,
Mahrez just passing it in and Vardy finishing everytihng with a
great shot on goal.
That goal is one of the finest seen in football ever, what a
fantastic run by Gray and he was the best player on the field. Puel
gave this game a magic touch with the introduction of Gray, who has
a special x-factor, that is why other clubs are willing to pay £ 20
to 30 million for him.
Puel showed great courage and he was again rewarded a few minutes
later when Gray again shot at goal and with a deflection from
Everton defender Kenny passed Pickford. City were 2-0 up after 29
2nd half was more like a transport lap for City. Everton had the
ball but they never really got the chance to score. Everton made two
substitutions after first half, with especially Niasse showing
promise, but he was cleverly stopped by the Leicester defence.
Albrighton, Okazaki and Iheanacho all came on and did enough to
secure the 2-0 win for Leicester. Iborra could have scored his first
goal for Leicester, but missed on a great pass from Vardy late in
the 2nd half.
A great start for Puel, City doing excactly what we like them to do,
making clinical strikes, scoring goals, defending their own goal and
really showing carachter, looks exciting.
Gray playing 90 minutes, what a contribution
Mahrez and Vardy combinations
Iborra and Ndidi looking better and better
Scoring two goals, one fantastic, one a bit lucky
Chilwell from start, showing great defensive skills, balances the
Morgan at his best, captaining in style
Maybe that it is close to winter, but that has nothing to do with
Schmeichel 7, Simpson 6, Fuchs 6, Maguire 7, Morgan 8, Ndidi 7, Iborra 8,
Chilwell 7, Gray 9, Vardy 8, Mahrez 7
