Leicester 0 - Crystal Palace 3, positives and negatives, player ratings and match report

DATE: 16.12.2017 - THE CUNNING FOX - NEWSDESK

Today Leicester City came down to earth like a rocket from space, it was a nightmare to watch the team perform in a way that few thought was impossible, especially at home

After a fantastic run of games, it was that banana skin coming up. The Palace team is known for their problems away, and to see the team perform as they did, was difficult to accept. Palace was best in everything.

Christian Benteke scored the first goal after a terrific pass from Townsend, a player linked with City  in the summer. Benteke found space between Morgan and Simpson and Schmeichel had no chance to save the header from the Belgian international.

City tried to go forward, but Mahrez and Gray, who are the two who can pass players and get into those positions never really found out how to make those dribbles today. They never really found the space needed playing a bit out of position, switching probably too much in positions.

Mahrez lost the ball when most City players were going forward and with players like Benteke, Townsend and Zaha in the Palace team, you will be heavilly punished if you do errors like this one.

The counter attack was brightly set up and the run from Zaha trolling with City defenders and finding the net with a great strike made this nightmare complete, scoring after 40 minutes.

City were playing at home, being 2-0 down after first half against a bottom team in the Premier League. This made no sence and hopes were that at least one subsititution would have happened before 2nd half, but the same team came out.

City tried to push forward and it was a bit of hope when Iborra found the net with a header and everyone thought it was a goal, but the referee thought otherwise and dissallowed the goal, whistling for offside. might have been correct.

Then when Wilfred Ndidi fell to easy inside the penalty area a few minutes later, allready being booked, it was easy to understand the decission of the referee, giving the birthday boy a 2nd yellow and by that sent off with a red.

Diving is not allowed in football and the Premier League officials said in the summer that they wanted this to end, and to see Ndidi falling like he did, made it all look a bit pathetic, especially when he had a yellow allready.

Puel waited to the 77th minute to birng on Okazaki and King, but it was not helping much. Ulloa came on in the 85th minute, but it was too late. Palace scored another one in stoppage time, making this game a complete nightmare, and not easy to understand the collapse

Positives:
Giving 14 players game time
New match on Tuesday, will get this one out of the system fast
57 % possession

Negatives:
Team selection didn't work, Albrighton, Iborra and Gray never managed to give the team the edge Puel looked for
Making substitutions too late, don't know why
Players looked a bit tired and too many lost balls in crucial areas
Not able to outplay Crystal Palace, a team in the bottom of the Premier League
Letting in three goals at home, what a shame
Not scoring at home, hopefully this will not happen again
Gray and Chilwell were at their lowest performance, showing why youth can be a problem
Okazaki the best player against Southampton, dropped and shadowed
Fuchs dropped to the bench, making three changes after a great game against Southampton, strange, didn't work

Player ratings:
Schmeichel 6, Simpson 4, Chilwell 3, Maguire 5, Morgan 5, Ndidi 4, Iborra 5, Gray 3, Vardy 5, Mahrez 4, Albrighton 4
Subs: Okazaki, Ulloa, King
