City started the game
well and everything looked like a new and great performance from a
team that made the most of their last game v. Manchester United
Claude Puel had made a number of changes from
the Manchester United game, why, to try to play a team that in a way
would be the perfect one v. Watford. TCF understands Puel thinking,
and hopefully he will continue to plan despite not getting what he
Things started brightly and Marc Albrighton played up to the best
level of his performance. His pass through to Jamie Vardy should
have set City on track to a great away win, but Vardy never managed
to get the ball behind Gomez in the Watford goal.
But in the 37th minute Riyad Mahrez was clever with a fantastic
cross from Marc Albrighton. The header from Mahrez is perfectly
plased and City are suddenly in the lead, fantastic.
City defenders needs a reaility check at times and to see Watford
getting back in the game with a goal from former City loanee Molla
Wague, was heartbreaking and like taking candy from children. To
consede in the last minute of the first half was a blow.
As so many times before the goal came from a set piece, and this
must be addressed once and for all. With big defenders like Wes
Morgan and Harry Maguire in the team this should never happen, and
to concede a goal like this is bad, really bad.
City came out in the 2nd half trying to make things better, and put
pressure on Watford, but it was never enough to score a goal,
instead Watford are the once taking the lead in the 65th minute
after a terrible mistake from Kasper Schmeichel.
Schmeichel could easilly have boxed the ball to a corner, instead he
just makes it pass, and the shot is deflected via Kasper Schmeichel.
The goal stands as an own goal, and one of very few mistakes from
the Danish international, but a crucial one.
Substitutions and a number of chances in the late stages of the game
results in nothing and again three points are lost, mostly because
defensive errors are done, and that must be corrected in the next
Playing away to Watford isn't easy, and hopefully Puel will be able
to address the problems. His team selection and rotation policy is
of course good in a long term perspective, giving more players a
chance, but if this is not giving a short term results, it's a
