Wigan on miracle run in the FA Cup, outfoxed Man City with Leicester loanee involved

Man City was defeated 1-0 away to Wigan in the FA Cup. This slams every hope of a four title chase and former and current foxes were involved in the heroic event

Callum Elder, currently on a season long loan at Wigan, played all 90 minutes and had a great game. He was given a yellow but his defending shows that City might have a good alternative left choice if Chilwell and Fuchs were to be replaced.

Two other former Leicester City loanees, Midfielder Nick Powell and Alex Bruce were also in the Wigan squad. Powell started the game but had to leave the field after just 27 minutes. On the bench Wigan had another former loanee Alex Bruce. So finally Man City showed a bit of humanity.

Wigan had few or now chances until N Ireland international Will Grigg scored with a great strike in the 80th minute. Grigg is a known carachter in football and one that manage to get the goals in special games. Grigg scored both goals against West Ham in the previous round.

Wigan, currently third in the league 1 table, makes the quarter finals of the FA Cup and has been a nemesis of Man City in previous years, defeating them at The Emirates and of course winning the 2013 finals against them.

Man City and Pep will not make the impossible and must consentrate on getting the Premier League in box, and of course try to reach the next round of the Champions League.

They are of course now focusing on the EFL Cup final at Wembley coming up this Sunday, but there will be no easy task playing an Arsenal team that so far this season has a trophy in the cabinet, and are chasing a 2nd and of course ready to get their hands on this pocal.

A great day for Callum Elder who was part of the City squad under pre-season and played a few of the games, but made a move to League 1 and Wigan before the season start and will get the same experience as his City team mates, playing the quarter final of the FA Cup.

Elder, who is born in Australia, joined City back in 2011 and has also played once at U.20 level for his country. He has not yet made his Premier League debut for Leicester, with a number of loan spells at several clubs since becoming a senior.

Before his move to Wigan this season, he has earlier been on loan at Mansfield, Peterborough, Brentford and Barnsley. So far he has been on the field in 10 league games this season and not been a regular, but what a great game tonight.

The run of games in the FA Cup for Wigan has been sensational, first a 3-0 win at home v. Bournemouth, then a 2-0 win at home to West Ham and now 1-0 at home v. Man City. Elder, scored one of the three goals v. Bournemouth.
