Leicester 1 - Stoke 1, positives and negatives, player ratings and match report

This was another must win for Leicester at home to neighbour Stoke, but chances were missed and oppertunites destroyed, mostly by own faults

City dominated the game. First half was a bit like getting to the penalty box, but at that point Stoke stopped City in their attempts, or you could say that City stopped themselves with the final pass failed or missed.

We were also a bit surprised to see the names of Chilwell, Gray and James in the starting line-up. with heavy priced players such as Iborra, Silva and Iheancho placed on the bench, Fuchs is a far better alternative on the left back than Chilwell, so sorry Puel, you missed that one.

A certain Xherdan Shaqiri was also on fire, and his talent and quality is a disgrace to see in a team so low in the table. Why he is playing at Stoke is not easy to understand, he is a player for the Bayern Munich's, Inter's and Chelsea's.

Shaqiri and Allen both played a great game, and the two secured the lead for Stoke after 43 minutes, with a well placed pass from Allen to Shaqiri who just curled the ball in a fantastic bow around Kasper Schmeichel who lacks a few inches in height to save that type of shots.

City were 1-0 down at first half, and they should really blame themselves, not being able to convert all their chances into a single goal. But they came out in the 2nd with energy and fire power, so it was a team who was on a mission.

Despite heavy pressure it wasn't until the 70th minute that this would be rewarded. Another of the Stoke heroes, Jack Butland, never managed to hold the hard pass from Albrighton and the ball went into the net, would say it was an Albrighton goal not a Butland own goal.

After the goal City started really to attack Stoke and Puel made a number of positive substitutions putting on Diabate and Iheanacho, strangely either Iborra or Silva were given a chance to shine, especially Iborra could have made the day for City.

But a number of fantastic chances, not to forget Maguire hitting the post, Mahrez missing alone with Butland, and also Ihenacho going very close, it was never converted to goals so the game ended 1-1 and it was good at least to get one point out of a great game really.

The form in Premier League is a bit frustrating and to lose four points at home to Swansea and Stoke, both struggling teams in the Premier League is not a positive sign at all. Hopefully Puel will start picking his best team and understand how he should line-up to win.

Mahrez back in the starting line-up, very lively and creating chances for City
Maguire was majestic today, maybe his best game in a City shirt, sadly he didn't score
Getting back from being 1-0 down
Putting real pressure on Stoke, dominating the game with 58 % possession
Puel making good substitutions

Puel picking the wrong team at home against a struggling opposition
James playing instead of Iborra is an insult, the former Sevilla captain and UEFA Cup winner is a far better alternative
Playing Gray outside of position, instead of using Iheanacho in his best position
Chilwell instead of Fuchs again, losing the defensive security and a long throw in
Schmeichel not at his best, almost making another big blunder, but for fox sake it turned out well
Silva, European Champion, not involved, sorry but please start using quality players, he needs games
Mahrez missing one clear goal chance, not able to score alone with Butland

Player ratings:
Schmeichel 6, Simpson 5, Chilwell 4, Maguire 9, Morgan 6, James 4, Ndidi 7, Gray 3, Mahrez 7, Vardy 6, Albrighton 6
Subs: Iheancho, Diabate
