Leicester 1 - Bournemouth 1, positives and negatives, player ratings and match report

DATE: 03.03.2018 - THE CUNNING FOX - BLOG

Sorry to say, but it's time for Puel to sit down and have a talk with himself, look at what he is doing and get this team back on track, he was lucky today and again saved by a wizard of a footballer

City were the dominating team from the first kick, but Bournemouth does have players that can turn a game with one single chance, and their attitude is fantastic, today the former Chelsea duo Begovic and Ake both played a fantastic game, especially Ake impressed.

Hopefully Puel did look at the opponent and recognised the defender that City surely should put on their wish list for next season. But he will probably be on the list of a number of contenders, great central defender, and together with Maguire, just a wish.

Marc Albrighton made a fatal decission to try to tackle Joshua King, and instead of winning the ball, Albrighton just hit King and it was a clear penalty, surely not the best we have seen from Albrighton, but in all he played a good game and worked hard to repair the damage.

King converted the penalty and City were one goal behind. The first half faded out without City really being able to put too much pressure on Bournemouth, but it was City who run the affair.

Second half was a game totally dominated by Leicester, and a number of great oppertuinities were spoiled, with Wes Morgan probably being the one closest to a goal, but his header was not well placed and everyhting became very frustrating.

Okazaki and Simpson both missed the game, and according to reports Simpson was just left out of the game totally, not even worth a place on the bench, surely that cannot be the reason, he must have been out with a late injury or some type of sickness.

Daniel Amartey who replaced Simpson at right back had a short lived game, going off with an injury after just 20 minutes, replaced by Ben Chilwell. The system was from start a sort of 4-3-3, then changed to 3-4-3, without the right balance.

City pushed hard for a goal and with a possession of 54 % they surely made the most out of the game as the stats will tell. Not that they tried but players spoiled a number of chances in front of goal and Bournemouth more or less parked the buss and played to the limit.

Then in stoppage time, City got a free kick, 25 m from goal and Riyad Mahrez steps up to take it. His kick is perfectly placed, curled around the Bournemouth wall, on the floor, and Begovic cannot reach out, so close to the left post, what a fantastic goal from a wizard of football.

Positives:
Mahrez scoring the impossible goal, again magic is shown when you last thought of it
Ndidi running the midfield as a great maestro, holding City in the game
Again able to pull back after being a goal down, shows strength
Close to the 40 point mark, and also pushing for a good finish
Silva getting a game, but he should have played with Ndidi and two flanks

Negatives:
Puel starting the game with the wrong line-up and formation
James again picked for a key role, the player is not involved in the game
Iheanacho and Iborra kept on the bench, we are playing at home, surely both could have been playing from start
Not able to convert such a pressure into enough goals
Not able to win a game with such great domination

Player ratings:
Schmeichel 6, Amartey, Fuchs 5, Maguire 6, Morgan 5, James 2, Ndidi 8, Silva 5, Mahrez 7, Vardy 6, Albrighton 6
Subs: Chilwell 5,  Iheanacho, Diabate
