This was a must win for Leicester, if they
wanted a ticket for Europe next season. But everything started like a
nightmare letting in two easy goals after only ten minutes of the game
played
Wes Morgan made a fatal error and made it easy for former fox Chris Wood
to score another goal for Burnley. The 2nd came from a corner and
another set piece problem made it easy for Kevin Long who just out
jumped everyone and scored with a fine header.
Hamza Choudhury and Andre Silva was a new composed central midfield duo,
who had trouble in the start and especially Silva is not yet settled and
used to the pace in the Premier League. Choudhury made the most of his
game and played well, one of the better players.
After that shock start Leicester was the better team and Ben Chilwell
made a great raid later on that could have resulted in a goal, but the
header from Vardy was not good enough and easy saved by Pope, who might
have been the best player on the pitch.
City attacked and attacked but never managed to get the ball behind Nick
Pope. Riyad Mahrez came close with a header and late in the first half
he was ever so close with a free kick from close reach, hitting the
crossbar.
Leicester came out in the second half with one change, Kelechi Iheanacho
replaced Shinji Okazaki who at the moment looks a bit out of form. The
change made it even more difficult for Burnley to keep of the pressure.
After 72 minutes Iheanacho started a great attack, passing a perfect
ball to Vardy who just hit it as hard as he could and the ball went in
via Pope, but it was not possible to hold on to it and save it. City.
Puel had allready replaced Gray with Diabate and it was a positive
change for Leicester. Gray never came up to the standard of play we all
know he can be at and Diabate comes on with something different, he is
better with the ball and have a broader technical reportoar than
Gray.
City had the chance to score more and in the close end Jamie Vardy could
have scored a second but he didn't have the luck and skill to get his
second of the game, but Vardy scored again and has twenty goals this
season, just an impressive tally from the England international.
Schmeichel had to leave the field in the late stages of the game, and
Ben Hamer came on. How it will be in the next game against Southampton,
who knows. A fun fact was that two goalkeepers on the day, Pope and
Hamer, both played together at Charlton and Pope was understudy to Hamer.
Positves
Coming back with a great attitude, trying to
do the best and created a number of chances
Hamza Choudhury deserved better, playing really well
Jamie Vardy scoring his 20th goal of the season
Ben Chilwell attacking and setting up other players, nice performance
Playing with great possession away from home and really controlling the
game
Negatives
Wes Morgan, not really showing captain
potential, poor performance, is it time for Dragovic
Schmeichel injury, totally idiotic display by Simpson, who had a bad day
at the office
Letting in two goals so early in the game, lack of consentration
Silva too slow, this game might be too pacy for his type of play
