England deserved the win and a place in
the quarter finals of the World Cup. Everything had to be settled on
penalties after a 1-1 draw in full time and also after extra time
Harry Maguire started the game and
Jamie Vardy came on late in the 2nd
half, especially Maguire is getting great reviews after the heroic
night in Moscow in front of 44 000 at the Otkrytiye Arena.
Maguires performance is rated highly as he again showed what a great
player he is. The back three of England is a real great example of
how clubs around in the country can grow talent.
John Stones started his career at Barnsley, with Harry Maguire and
Kyle Walker both getting the league debuts with Sheffield United.
This is great news for younger players and how it is possible to get
to the top and start to build careers at a lower level.
Back to the Leicester City perspective and again thinking of players
with a past or present at Leicester, you also have to count Jesse
who both spent time on loan at Leicester City.
Harry Kane scored the only England goal in the game. The Tottenham
forward was taken down in the penalty area and he himself scored
from the penalty spot with a great finish in the 57th minute.
Jamie Vardy entered the field in the 88th minute, replacing Raheem
Sterling and everyone believed Vardy would be on the list of players
to shoot a penalty, but he never did. Speculations are that he had a
groin problem and could not shoot.
England won the shoot out after goals from Kane, Rashford, Tripper
and Dier. Liverpool midfielder
Jordan Henderson missed.
became the hero with one fantastic save, winning the game for
Hopefully Vardy will get the treatment needed to be involved in
further action, but speculations are that his World Cup could be
over, we certainly hope not and it would be fantastic to see him
score if possible.
Maguire has so far been involved in all England games, playing from
start against Tunisia, Panama and Columbia, coming on as a sub
against Belgium. Jamie Vardy started against Belgium and coming on
against Panama and Columbia.
