The Danish international
goalkeeper has been widely praised for his performances at the 2018
World Cup, leading to speculation that several clubs could be
preparing to lure him away from Leicester City, ahead of the 2018-19
Premier League season getting started.
suffered a heartbreaking World Cup exit despite his very best
efforts against Croatia, saving one penalty from Luca Modric during
extra time to keep Denmark in the fight, then two more during the
dramatic penalty shoot-out lottery. In the end, it wasn't enough to
get through to the quarter-finals.
“His performances have
been excellent,” goalkeeping coach
Mike Stowell told LCFCTV, suggesting the Dane can be
justifiably proud of his stellar displays throughout the tournament,
which included clean sheets during the group stage against Peru and,
most notably, France, who are one of the favourites to win the World

According to the Daily Mail,
such impressive form by Schmeichel at the World Cup appears to have
attracted the interest of Chelsea and Roma, with both clubs facing a
battle to retain the services of their current
goalkeepers, amidst a potential domino effect of moves during the
summer transfer window. All it could take is one move to potentially

Devils any time soon, despite his World Cup blunders with Spain.
Given that most of the
potential destinations for Schmeichel seem to hinge on other
goalkeepers leaving first, Liverpool would seem the most realistic

chances of Schmeichel going to Anfield have
been dismissed by some pundits, even though he would be a
significant improvement on Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius, with the
latter in particular the brunt of memes and ridicule after his
errors in the Champions League final.
All told and
regardless of the transfer gossip, should Leicester City have any
genuine reasons to fear losing their number one between the posts?
Well, online bookmakers also have the Foxes at 5/4 odds to keep
Schmeichel at the Kingpower Stadium, so there’s certainly a firm
