Real Madrid joining Manchester United in chase for Leicester City defender

DATE: 29.07.2018 /- TCF - FILBERTWAY

Leicester City manager Claude Puel is again fighting a battle that looks certain to be lost. He might be able to hold on to Harry Maguire for the next few months, but is it possible to keep a player happy when Real Madrid comes knocking on the door

Harry Maguire is at the moment among the hottest football properties on the planet earth, and for Leicester City to compete with giants such as Manchester United and Real Madrid when they are prepared to pay almost a billion for a player, is a tall order.

Puel had to say goodbye to Riyad Mahrez earlier in the summer, and Harry Maguire looks certain to be tempted to join Real Madrid or Manchester United. He will honour the contract at Leicester City, but such a chance might not ever be coming back.

To keep players who are unhappy or have other plans than to battle for a place in the Leicester City team might not be the ideal solution long term. It gives a message to the other players, but again would love to keep Maguire.

Claude Puel has said that he will build his team around Harry Maguire, a cunning plan, but is it a long term ambition for the club to build a team around a player who has only been with the club for one full season and probably has eyes on something else.

To stop approaches from bigger clubs is of course a strategy, but in the long run is it wise to do so. Liverpool, Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona are the clubs you might have to sell to, if they offer you enough money.

Most professional players are interested to see how far they can go in football. Leicester City showed that they were not able to build from their Premier League win and instead fell like a stone the season after, making errors and wrong decissions in the transfer market.

We have seen over the past two seasons that finishing mid-table is enough to save your job at Leicester City, for the clubs mentioned above that would be a total disaster.

You will at those clubs get the sack with a track record that would have made you a saint at Leicester City. Claudio Ranieri made one big mistake telling everyone that that season he managed to win the Premier League was a miracle.

Ranieri said to his players, that I will not believe one second that you can repeat what you did last season again next season, what they did was not a miracle it was very simple a group of players performing well and steady in all their games.

Would love to see all the best players at Leicester City staying, but then the goals must be more bold than finishing mid-table, because then you will not be able to keep England internationals happy, they want more.

We have a new fresh and updated hot, cool and cold list to view, and don't miss out on all the great interviews, documentaries and other updates from the tv channels "city-extra", "tcfone" and "retrotv".
