Leicester 1 - Valencia 1, positives and negatives, player ratings and
DATE: 01.08.2018 /- TCF - FILBERTWAY
Claude Puel fielded a side to this game
that in many ways saw the shape of what we will expect this season,
an exciting line up with potential
We missed Demarai Gray, who is out with a minor injury, but Claude
Puel has confirmed that Gray is close to recovery.
Puel had also left out Musa, Slimani, Kapustka, Simpson, Ulloa and
King, and also missing the clash were injured trio James, Mendy and
Evans. Okazaki, Vardy and Maguire were also missing this pre-season
friendly v. Valencia.
James Maddison and Ricardo Pereira both played from start in
positions that we believe they will get a chance to shine in. Both
played a good game and especially Maddision showed skills that we
believe will be of Premier League quality, week in and week out.
City performed in a positive away at home,
kept position and had the ball more than Valencia. This is one of
the better teams in Europe and to see City playing so well against
such an opponent is a good indication of what we can expect.
The structure from start was a type of 4-5-1. Maddison in an
offensive midfield role in front of Iborra and Ndidi and linking up
will with Kelechi Iheanacho who scored his Leicester City's goal as
he did in the last friendly against Udinese.
Belaouane and Iheanacho might be overlooked against Manchester
United or against Lille, with Vardy and Maguire back in contention,
but again a good and well earned performance by Iheanacho.
Maddison impressed in his midfield position and to see so many
youngsters doing well and really dominating the game is a big plus.
Chilwell, Ndidi, Maddison, Iheanacho and Diabate all played to their
A number of youngsters also got their chance in the 2nd half with
Choudhury, Ndukwu and Gordon all showing great skills. Knight and
Johnson both came on in defence and as we all know they are two
great young defender prospects.
Puel send out a signal today, showing a team that also could be
without Maguire and Vardy for the opener against Manchester United,
but hopefully they will be available even if they report back on
Monday and will miss all pre-season action, and just have four days
to prepare for the season opener.
So to sum up the game, here are our positvies and
negatives, player ratings and match stats,
Solid performance from City, showing great promise against one of
Europe's best teams

Going in front with a positve goal
A number of youngsters trying to grab their chance and really
showing good skills
Sadly no Gray involved we need him to win games in the Premier
