Lille 1 - Leicester 2, positives and negatives, player ratings and match report

DATE: 04.08.2018 /- TCF - FILBERTWAY

The last pre-season game kicked off this afternoon. Lille started with an early goal, easy and a real consentration glip from the Leicester defence, but after that Kelechi Iheanacho showed his abillities

Simpson, Ulloa, Slimani, King and Kapustka were all absent, so were Choudhury and Gray. Gray and Choudhury must have missed the games with minor injuries, while the other five are reported to be among a group of players who all could be on the way out.

Amartey and Benalouane were both starting and they performed well, and are players who in previous seasons have shown quality to be counted in the Premier League.

Leicester came level after 34 minutes from a great Kelechi Iheanacho header, perfectly crossed and assisted by Marc Albrighton. Iborra and Ndidi looked more and more comfortable in the middle as they supported well from the centre of midfield.

1-1 at half-time and a good first 45 minutes from Leicester City. Adrien Silva came on for the 2nd half and made great impact, taking over from Vicente Iborra. Those two will be fighting for a place, with Wilfred Ndidi looking certain.

Leicester made a good start to the 2nd half and a more directly orientated team is there to see, more aggressive in a sort of way. Chilwell could get his big break through this season, showing how well he can go forward and make perfect passes.

Chilwell assisted Iheanacho for his 2nd goal in the 59th minute. A great cross on the floor from the left flank found Iheanacho who just put his foot to the ball and scored a lovely 2-1 goal.

Leicester kept momentum and a super save from Kasper Schmeichel late in the game made it possible for Leicester City to grab their 2nd winner of the pre-season and going home with a lot of positives.

Maddison and Silva both had to leave the field after getting knocks, but hopefully they are both fresh and ready to go against Manchester United on Friday.

Puel made a number of substitutions in the last 20 minutes, giving Gordon and Ndukwu another go together with Fuchs, Diabate, Johnson and Elder. Knight and Ward were unused subs.

So to sum up the game, here are our positvies and negatives, player ratings and match stats,

Positives:
Kelechi Iheanacho, scoring 4 in 3 pre-season friendlies, solid
Coming back after being one goal behind
Schmeichel showing match winner form, great saves, keeping Leicester in the game
Youngsters given games and showing great attitude and working spirit
Chilwell and Albrighton with great passing skills and assisting abilities
Silva again coming on and showing his worth, Iborra and Ndidi looks solid

Negatives
Not being allert from the start of the game
Minor knocks to Silva and Maddison, hopefully able to play on Friday
Still a lot of questions regarding a squad that looks a bit unfinished and in a breakup
