Going into the memory books at both clubs is always a bit of fun, and this time we didn’t have to go very far back to find players with a life in both camps. Kasper Schmeichel spent time on loan (2007-08) at Cardiff City, playing 14 league games and keeping a clean sheet in the November clash with Leicester City, the game ending 0-0.
Neil Warnock has a group of former foxes at his disposal. Sol Bamba and Lee Peltier are two who had a period with Leicester City in the Championship, and today are in the Premier League squad with The Bluebirds.
Greg Cunningham who had a loan spell with Leicester City during the 2010-11 season, joined Cardiff City in front of this season, leaving Preston North End. A former hero at Leicester City, Danny Drinkwater is also one with a past at Cardiff City, playing 9 league games in the 2010-11 season.
Nathan Blake, who started his career with Cardiff City, playing 135 league games and scoring 35 goals for the club, was one joining Leicester City 10 years after. A short spell back in 2004-05 was in a time and place that probably came a bit late to become a fans favourite as a fox, playing 14 league games and never on the score sheet.
Kerrea Gilbert spent a season on loan at Cardiff City prior to his next loan spell at Leicester City, being first choice at right back at both clubs. Gilbert was loaned in from Arsenal, but two good loan spells never really made his career as bright as you might have thought it would be, seeing the 31 year last play in St Albans City.
Another more celebrity from the ranks of Arsenal was Kevin Campbell, who had a short loan spell early in his career with Leicester City, after a long life in football he ended it all with a short spell at Cardiff City before his retirement from the game in 2007
Going back a few years and looking into the 60’s and 70’s, names as Willie Carlin, John Farrington, Keith Robson and Peter Rodrigues pops up. Rodrigues who was a “big money signing” for Leicester City in the mid 60’s, John Farrington and Willie Carlin both playing at Cardiff City under former Leicester City manager Frank O’Farrell during the 1973-74 season.
Jumping back again and closer to the present, goalkeeper Gavin Ward was a 1993 summer signing for Leicester City from Cardiff City for a fee of £ 175 000. Ward had a short spell at Leicester City but remained in the game until passing 40.
Other names to recognize are Mike Ford, Mark Grew, Steve Lynex, Kevin MacDonald, Carl Muggleton, Russell Osman, Nicky Platnauer, Gary Plumley, Paul Ramsey and Riccardo Scimeca.
