Most fans focused on the fact that Harry Maguire was included in the squad in the pre-season opener against Scunthorpe United. What surprised a bit was the inclusion of South African, Khanya Leshabela.
The 19 year old is still very young, and a teenager for a few months more. He was last season included in the squad for a Carabao Cup clash v Southampton, but never entered the field. Still looked up on as one great talent and hopefully he will follow current academy recruits Ben Chilwell and Harvey Barnes.
He is closely watched by South African media who has seen one of their greatest talents progress through the youth system at Leicester City, joining the club at the age of 13. He has allready been capped at U.20 level for his country.
Leshabela signed a long term deal in January being contracted until the summer of 2022. To see him starting the first pre-season opener and also being one of two not taken of after the first half was promising. He did well in his first outing for the first team as well.
A number of players were absent, but to see the 19 year old perform with a mature attitude shows that players coming through the system at Leicester City can be counted among players signed for big money fees.
TCF is a great believer in youth development and all in all it will be the most important part of recruitment as the club are progressing. Josh Knight, Daniel Iversen were also in the squad on Tuesday.
Leicester City will play Cheltenham Town tomorrow, and would probably again be a great chance for the youngster to appear. Leshabela looks as if he will use this opportunity to mark his presence and hope that Brendan Rodgers will see more of his potential at a level above previous experience.
