Leicester 2, AEK Athens 0, positives and negatives, player ratings, and match report

Brendan Rodgers made his mind up and did excactly as TCF would like his team be, 4-3-3 is the preferred system and when playing his squad this way, he gets out of it always, so please don’t mess about anymore. The squad is build to play 4-3-3 and then just please do that.

AEK Athens haven’t scared anyone in this Europa League campaign, but the performance yesterday was good from a well balanced Leicester City side, good enough to secure a solid win, and it could have been more than the two goals scored.

Both goals came early with the first one a pearl from Cengiz Under, a great volley from close range, and the first from The Turk, love to see him play, and hopefully Brendan Rodgers will find out how to get the best out of a player with a huge top level.

Just a couple of minutes later Harvey Barnes killed the game with a nice finish and it could certainly have been more as Leicester City kept pressure in the rest of the first half.

Leicester kept AEK on distance and controlled second half in the best way possible with Dennis Praet coming as close as you can get to get the third, but with just 90% grit he just lack that killing instinct and then you have to start ask questions about how you can get him to be more aggressive.

Jonny Evans captained the team, Danny Ward getting a new chance in goal, which is good, when possible. He needs games to be there if Kasper Schmeichel gets an injury and he is a good goalkeeper Danny Ward.

This was of course an expected win and one that made it possible to believe that it is more to come from the Leicester City team and in 4-3-3 you have structure that works, and it shows that this system is to be used as you balance the midfield in a perfect way with the players available.

Leicester City are now through to the next stage and exciting to be involved in Europe also after the year end, another good and effective win for Brendan Rodgers and his team.
