We were all excited to see that both Kelechi Iheanacho and Jonny Evans made the starting eleven for this exciting clash against a giant as we always will rate Manchester United to be, though they have not managed to win a trophy under the OGS days. What a game it turned out to be, with up’s and down’s and a number of great and fantastic goals from both parties.
We also did see Bouba Soumare getting a proper chance to start and his presence will over time be huge for Leicester, he is a massive talent and when fully adapting to the style of play in Premier League another top top performer will be part of this football club, but after 19 minutes every Leicester fan were drawn to earth by Mason Greenwood, who had just minutes before tested Kasper Schmeichel, but this time it was no test. A shot from outside the penalty area was curled out of reach for Schmeichel hit the post and up in the corner it went, 1-0, Man Utd after 19 minutes.
Leicester were not shaken much and in the 31st minute when Kelechi Iheanacho snapped the ball from former Leicester defender Harry Maguire, made a short pass to Youri Tielemans, who in an electric moment made an astonishing well placed curle over David De Gea, it was even, 1-1.Embed from Getty Images
Leicester had no worries really going into 2nd half, kept the ball controlled and playing with a bit of possession. Kept it solid in the back, with Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu again looking fantastic. Caglar needs this support to get his game to the absolute best, and today he was grand and the best player on the field.
Brendan Rodgers decided to make a number of changes late on 2nd half bringing on Patson Daka and Ayoze Perez, and the impact was fantastic. They replaced Kelechi Iheanacho and James Maddison and it turned out to be the perfect decision from BR as his team pushed even further up the field. After 78 minutes, from a corner, Daka made a good attempt with his shot on goal, Caglar Soyuncu getting the ball over the line, Leicester were suddenly leaading 2-1.
Manchester United had brought on Marcus Rashford for Jadon Sancho. Rashford trolled the Leicester defense with a great sprint and scoring from close distance, the pass through from Victor Lindelof was of great perfection. Suddenly the game was even again, 2-2. But just from the kick off it turned again. Ayoze Perez made a good pass to Jamie Vardy and his shot was perfectly placed into the corner of the net, Leicester were 3-2 up. What a moment.
Then in stoppage time, from a corner, Patson Daka turns up and gets the fourth goal over the line, and what a great day for Patson Daka. He is a brilliant footballer and with him, Kelechi Iheanacho and Jamie Vardy available you have a mix of three fantastic forwards to use in this 3-5-2 set up. Today this system also made James Maddison a better player and really helped his game to flourish as he in our view made his best appearance this season.Embed from Getty Images
Jannik Vestergaard made the field as the third sub replacing Jonny Evans in the 88th minute. Vestergaard did well and also took part in this fantastic achievement. Hopefully he can build on this as well, struggling a bit early on as he need time to adapt and get into the correct settings, he is fitted to a certain style of play. Vestergaard has been involved in the last two internationals for Denmark together with Kasper Schmeichel contributing to that clean sheet all win World Cup qualification campaign. Hopefully BR will be able to set Jannik in a better position going forward, and of course getting these minutes against Man Utd was vital for the tall Dane.
A great result in a game that was pretty even and that could have ended differently, but to win was so vital. Not just because of the three points but also to get the new signings Patson Daka and Bouba Soumare established and with the two feeling comfortable in a winning team, we will most certainly see a geat progress oging forward.Embed from Getty Images
Leicester made the most of their performance and everyone was on their toes, and we did see a team that were equal in play with Man Utd and creating chances that was converted to fantastic goals. Then also to see how some players blossomed with the correct set-up, you now that the recepy going forward should not be changed much. It’s a bit like making waffels, it’s all down to a good recepy, using the tools correctly and getting the hearts out there.
Winning 4-2 and getting three points from this game pushes Leicester up to 11th in the table just four points behind Brighton who are currently in that fourth spot. So with only eight games played you can hope for a future push towards the top. Something we know Brendan Rodgers will be out to reach with his team.
Leicester will fly out to Moscow midweek playing against Spartak in the Europa Leauge. Hopefully getting something out of that game and be able to keep up the pace in this competition as well. Getting into the next fase is so important. So far a defeat and a draw are what we have seen, hopefully the win will be seen in Russia.
