Hamza Mendyl is one of many new faces at OH Leuven this summer. Mendyl arriving from Schalke together with interesting additions such as goalkeeper Valentin Cojocaru from Ukrainian club SK Dnipro. Their most expensive signing of the summer is defender Ewoud Pletinckx moving from Waregem for a fee of €750.000.
There are also additions of more quality players joining on a free. They do look better as they are preparing for a new season at the highest level in Belgium.
Those other new players added on a free are midfielder Raphael Holzhauser from Beershot, left winger Jon Dagur Torsteinsson from AGF Aarhus, right back Joren Dom also from Beershot, midfielder Joao Gamboa from Estoril Praia in Portugal. A new goalkeeper has also arrived, Nordin Jackers from Beveren.
Last season ended in a 4th place with manager Jack Brys building further. He arrived at OH Leuven in 2020 and last season ending 11th in the top tier as they prepare for new and better things to happen coming up.
OH Leuven is building a team depending a lot on loan signings and as those players mentioned above have arrived others have departed. Goalkeeper Rafael Romo will next season play under Wayne Rooney and DC United. Experienced midfielder Xavier Mercier has moved to Hungary and will play for Ferencvaros. The 32 year old moved for a fee of €500.000.
A number of other players has also departed on a free transfer as the rebuild Brendan Rodgers is talking about at Leicester certainly looks to have happened at OH Leuven.
OH Leuven is closer to their season start and so far been impressive in pre-season playing three games before. 3-1 wins against Charleroi and Beershot as well as a 1-1 draw in their last game vs. Dutch opponent Fortuna Sittard.
We will be looking forward to the second pre-season game for Leicester coming up next at OH Leuven on Saturday, and if Brendan Rodgers moves his team around with no look for a result it could be a heavy challenge.
