Jannik Vestergaard who was a cemented player in the Denmark squad for the 2021 Euro’s and also during the qualifications to the World Cup in Qatar, was not selected for the finals. Not a surprise when being a player without any first team game time to count this season.

Vestergaard played his last game for Denmark in June vs. Austria, being part of a team winning 2-1. He was also in the squad for the next two games, but since the start of the Premier League season been left out and his open-hearted message tells a story of a frustrated player.

Jannik Vestergaard has not been much involved and among his appearances a nightmare U.21 game vs. Fulham, scoring an own goal in the 7-0 defeat.

The contrasts are huge towards his life at Southampton and previously with Denmark, being involved in 35 full internationals and along that way scoring twice.

He tells in his message that a year ago he was part of a great World Cup qualification campaign and had no thoughts of not being involved when the World Cup kicked off, but a difficult 2022 has seen him in this terrible situation.

He continues to say that he has seen a boyhood dream being trashed. To represent Denmark has brought him some of the best highlights in life, but he believe this is still not the end at the international arena. He wishes the Danish team, the staff and all Danish fans a good tournament.

This is of course that black side of football, when a player of great international standard cannot get into his club team.
