Daniel Amartey was a free agent after his contract at Leicester ended after last season. Speculations about his future has been many, but did settle on joining Besiktas in a one year deal.
Amartey joined Leicester from FC Copenhagen back in January 2016, for a fee of £6million, taking part in 5 league games that season and became a Premier League winner.
He was also in the squad for the FA Cup final in 2021, playing just one of the games on the route to Wembley, being on the subs bench for the 1-0 win vs. Chelsea at Wembley. He played a total 106 league games for Leicester and after a number of different injury problems, foughting his way back into contention under Brendan Rodgers, playing most as a central defender, but could also cover at right back and in a defensive midfield position.
This is a new chapter for the Ghana international, so far been capped 52 times by his country, and while at Leicester played 44, having just Kasper Schmeichel in front of him among the clubs most capped players. At international level he has a silver medal from the AFCON in 2015.
Besiktas ended 3rd in the Super Lig last season, being the champions in the previous. Amartey will be back competing in Europe as part of the Conference League, playing Tirana in their first qualifier on the 27th of July. He will also team up with former Leicester player, Rachid Ghezzal.
