Goalkeeper Chituru Odunze (20) has decided to move back to the US and joins up with Crown Legacy FC, the reserve team of MLS club side Charlotte FC.

The young goalkeeper had stiff competition at Leicester with both Arlo Doherty and Brad Young in the development set up, as well as Daniel Iversen, Mads Hermansen, Jacub Stolarczyk, Alex Smithes and Danny Ward in a first team squad that could see more goalkeepers depart.

Not a surprise to see him leave and hopefully be able to progress and possibly coming up against Lionel Messi in the future as he also moved to the MLS and Inter Miami this summer.

Odunze has been capped at U.17 and U.20 level for USA and was called up to the full squad in 2020, and looked as a promising prospect, but still the club decided to let him leave and of course having so many other alternative goalkeepers, reducing the group looks obvious.

Crown Legacy FC competes in MLS Next Pro, a men’s professional soccer league in the United States and Canada that is affiliated with Major League Soccer. It launched in 2022 with 21 teams and now comprises 27 reserve sides of MLS clubs. MLS Next Pro is classified as part of the third tier of the United States soccer league system.

The league runs from spring to fall with the first season kicking off in March. Each team plays 24 regular-season games, which will be followed by an 8-team playoff tournament. The league is divided into Eastern and Western Conferences.[7]

Unlike Major League Soccer, MLS Next Pro does not feature a salary cap, and player contracts are held by the teams and not by the league. Team rosters can have up to 24 professional players (not including amateur academy players) with a maximum of seven international players. An MLS Next Pro club’s active roster contains up to 35 players, all of whom are eligible for selection to each official match roster during the MLS Next Pro season.

Chituru will join Crown Legacy FC currently top of the table after 20 games played, and with no relegation and promotion he needs to be on his toes and make a new transfer to get into the MLS and could hope for Charlotte FC to pick him up in the future, as they are part of the best party.
