Described as a steal when Brendan Rodgers signed him from Ligue 1 winner Lille in the summer of 2021. But it was obvious that to step into action in Premier League was not what the manager had in mind, as he looked for a soft introduction.

Boubakari Soumare (24) had probably seen himself getting more action than 19 league appearances, coming on in 7 and starting in 12. His total tally of games in that first season was 30 in all competitions, but still he looked way back in the pecking order.

He was a bit overlooked and on the fringe during the time Brendan Rodgers was in charge, but still played 30 games in all competitions in his frist season, last season, his 2nd, he 29 games in all competitions, but still not really seen as a regular in this period.

When Dean Smith arrived at Leicester as interim manager in the last eight games of the 2022/23 season, Soumare became a key player and started all games under the former Aston Villa and Norwich manager.

He looked well in place and especially in the game vs. Wolves being pivotal and impressive in that first win under Dean Smith. A bit surprised to see him almost out of the picture at present, despite travelling with the team to Bangkok and Singapore, he was not much involved.

Napoli and Marseille are both said to have shown interest, and a loan is what the two clubs are looking for. A bit sad to see him leave, as he had something to him, but still if he does not fit the pattern on the new regime, than he should consider a move.
