Leicester fan channel on You Tube, Blue Tinted Glasses, recently featured Shane Flynn as a guest. Flynn shared his honest views on Leicester as a club. He spoke about his massive struggle with injuries. At the moment, he is without a club.

At the age of 24 he is seeking a new club after a short stay at Kettering Town. Leaving The Poppies in November after just a handful of appearances, the former Ireland U21 international is seeking new opportunities.

The talk with the former Leicester City academy player is one that tells the story of football. This is a brutal game and you only have yourself in the long run. Living a life inside the game, this is no surprise to see. If you are not performing or out and near the end of your contract, you can find yourself in limbo.

Shane Flynn had injury problems during a vital time of his progression. This can stop development. It can also prevent getting the opportunities you need to get on board the next plain. No favours, closed doors, but still since leaving Leicester he has performed at the highest level in Ireland.

Shane Flynn joined Leicester from Bray Wanderers. The thrill of being approached by a Premier League club was tempting. He had a brilliant start at the club and in 2020-21 being named player of the season. Ben Nelson, Jacub Stolarczyk and Will Alves are names coming through at the same time.

The interview was one worth listening to. It gives you a brutal reality check about what top professional football can be like. Even to get to the stage Shane Flynn did, is very, very difficult. Few survive. We notice that many players must descend the ladder. They need to do this to get a chance to play first team football.

Shane Flynn knows the game and has learned how hard it can be. He still had his opportunities. Sadly, injuries stopped his progress. He left Leicester in July 2024. The club had just won promotion back to the Premier League with Enzo Maresca. So it’s not long ago he was inside this environment. He joined Waterford back in Ireland, but that stay became a short affair. After half a season he moved to Ballymena. He then moved again over the summer to Kettering on a short term deal. Seeing him leave again and not having a settled situation could make potential new clubs reluctant. This is due to his recent record of fitness problems.

Nice to see a player open up in and around life as a footballer. Shane Flynn gave us all a good insight to his life in this very special environment. This is as people who have been inside the game themselves knows about. It’s all about performance. You must give the club what you have to offer on the field. If you do not perform as well as expected, then life can be difficult.

This is why a plan B is often needed. But still if you have any idea of how much training you need to do to become a professional footballer and you start to drift or lose motivation, you will be out of it faster than lightening.

Shane Flynn has his own popular account on TikTok. He publishes good video topics on life as a footballer. Shane also shares specials regarding the environment in the game.
