The Man City game showed again a dilemma in the selection policy and also strange to see that certain players just fell through completely against an opponent that could have been a scene for other players to shine.

Jannik Vestergaard was chosen in front of Daniel Amartey and he was totally out in the cold not really an alternative with Jonny Evans and the Danish international clearly in front in the pecking order.

Boubakary Soumare do have a more defensive strength than both Youri Tielemans and James Maddison, he was not in the team and not given a chance at all, so you do think, why is that against such a fantastic team.

The fact that we all as Leicester fans believed we had a chance of a point clearly is an indication that we are patriotic, Man City had the ball in 61% of the game and then to play James Maddison and Marc Albrighton, might be a failure as none of them are great and special players in counterattack.

Of course both Maddison and Albrighton do have the abiltiy to play that vital pass that could set up Barnes or Vardy who do have pace to win a race against the Man City defenders, but again both do not have the ability to keep up with the pace needed in a game where you surely struggle to keep the ball off the opponent.

We certainly hope that Jannik Vestergaard has no injury worries at all, but to see him taken off for safety reasons looks totally strange, the same said about the fact that Jonny Evans was given his first game of the season, three minutes after Leicester were 1-0 down with a defense a bit shaky at the time and not organized the way it had been for the first hour of the game.

Would like to see a more analytical approach to games going forward and not a happy go lucky approach which makes games more unpredictable and of course hoping that at least Soumare and Dake will be given time to shine in this Leicester team, if not, why sign them as just covers.

To sign expensive fringe players and send others out on loan or sell them after never being a first team certainty. This has to be addressed as money can’t be flushed out on players not really seen as clear first team men, hopefully Brendan Rodgers will find a way to get on with this problem.

This type of policy started with Claudio Ranieri who did transfer blunders that cost him his job, adding Kapustka, Musa, Mendy, Zieler, Wague, Gray and Amartey without really having a plan for them. He brought in Wilfred Ndidi which was a master signing, but he was a player given a good chance establish himself in the team.

Under Claude Puel it continued with Craig Shakespeare and Brendan Rodgers adding to that way of running the show, but again why buy just to have a number of covers that in real will not be able to flourish much without game time in the first team.

Leicester cannot in the future just play players on the fringe in the EFL cup, but hopefully we will see something of a plan of this against Napoli, with certain players rested and again see new and fresh faces in the line-up, without upsetting the balance and fall flat.
