With key players in your squad that are “not 100% happy” you will always have a problem, but what Brendan Rodgers must find out is really very easy. Is it better to have a Harry Maguire on 95%, as his heart is at Man Utd, than to gamble on selling him, believe the answer is, keep Maguire, he will be doing his job and we are ok with that.
A players wish cannot be granted just because he has done a fantastic job in the past, the money must also be of a certain value, and with Man Utd paying £50million for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, surely Maguire is worth £80million, maybe close to £100million.
That is the business now, not what Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk from Southampton a few months back. Football is competition and with the team fielded against Stoke City yesterday, Leicester City are stronger than ever before.
They had quality in every position on the field and this might have been the strongest first 11 at Leicester City ever, even without Wilfred Ndidi who will of course claim a place. N’Gole Kantè and Riyad Mahrez are of course to be mentioned as “great”, but as an 11 it was one of the best i’ve seen.
The players understand each other and the passes done, especially from Maddison finding Vardy, was so superb. Tielemans is also a key part in this puzzle, because it’s a little puzzle to find those pieces to fit.
The back four was well balanced and easily seen as one of the best ever, Pereira, Evans, Maguire and Chilwell are really a solid block. Ayoze Perez will slot in here and he knows his football and can play the game to it’s full.
Marc Albrighton scored a fantastic goal and his experience and grand solidity makes him a perfect player for Brendan Rodgers. To see Hamza Choudhury out there was also fantastic, he is so good defensively and not seen anyone really taking on opponents and winning tackles the way he does, just brilliant.
But as we all know as Leicester City fans, when everything looks perfect as it does at the moment, with a great manager, and a number of internationals that really makes this Leicester City 2019/20 team special.
So far in the pre-season things have gone smoothly and been nice to watch. Winning and playing in the style they do, with more than 60% possession against their opponents shows the quality.
If Harry Maguire, a very special player in this team, is set to leave and join Manchester United, then that must be a massive blow to a team build up at this moment that looks almost perfect. We certainly hope that everything was set a side, and cannot understand why the club and the player is eager to destroy this momentum.
