As TCF predicted and as we have said all summer, the transfers in and out must balance as it has in the previous transfer windows. With a list of almost 40 players on the first team payroll and many of them on wages no other club can afford or are willing to pay, you have to carefully consider your moves.
Brendan Rodgers has a great dilemma at the moment, because he might be uncertain about his four central defenders and how to use them. The fact that he has not yet given James Justin any game time in the central area makes him not a real contender for those positions.
Caglar Soyuncu looks as the preferred partner to Jonny Evans, who has in all been impressive during pre-season, and hopefully this pairing will be good enough, with established first team players Ben Chilwell as left back and Ricardo Pereira to the right.
Bournemouth’s Dutch international Nathan Ake is the latest name to be linked, with James Tarkowski, Kristoffer Ajer, Bastos, Djene Dakonam, Kristian Kabasele and Lewis Dunk also among the rumours flying around on “thin paper”.
Burnley defender James Tarkowski is the one mentioned the most, but Brendan Rodgers knows that using almost £50million on the England international, would probably be gambling with chances to improve other areas in his line-up and valuation after a very good pre-season could be that Rodgers is going with what he got.
Nathan Ake is a quality defender, but Eddie Howe has no interest of selling and if a move would be considered the fee could be inflated and above the fee Burnley are demanding for Tarkowski. Ake (24) is a player that has attracted interest from “bigger and better” than Leicester City, with Tottenham, Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd, Bayern Munich, Roma, Barcelona and Juventus all seen as potential new arenas for the highly rated defender.
Only one week left before the kick off of the new season and TCF would be believe that Brendan Rodgers will gamble on Caglar Soyuncu alongside Jonny Evans, with Wes Morgan and Filip Benkovic being the covering duo.
Daniel Amartey is closely linked with a move to Sheffield United, and that could be one new departure needed to fund moves of players coming in, but all in all we believe that Rodgers could consider a loan move late in this window, just to be sure to have that cover, with players such as Bastos, Dakonam and Kabasele all possible to probably get in late.
