Jannik Vestergaard was seen as one of the best players in the Euro’s. Denmark came close to a new sensation as we all have great memories of from the 1992 finals, and the move to Leicester came as a real boost for fans and we all hoped to see Vestergaard doing his grand portion in the team.
His appearances for Leicester so far has not been to the standard we all would hope for, and his situation will be even more difficult if Brendan Rodgers cannot find a way to keep the highly rated Danish international exposed by the way BR decides to use him.
Footballers played out of their best positions or in partnerships with players they really cannot play alongside or being set up with can damage a football career. Vestergaard is a tall and robust center half but to shine he needs a bit of help with a pacy player in there with him and also being able to go for the headers and not really bother about the cover behind him.
This will be a problem at Leicester as you have Jonny Evans or Caglar Soyuncu and even Wilfred Ndidi in there to cover, none of them capable really to play with a player like Jannik Vestergaard. Evans and Ndidi lack the pace you need to give Vestergaard his freedom to go for those headers and controll the air at a football field, Caglar Soyuncu will not be a player able to read the game in a way that makes Vestergaard the best alternative.
The lack of pace will always make a player look bad if you cannot find the correct partner and alongside most players at Leicester he will be in danger. Tommy Christensen, Simon Kjær or Joachim Andersen are all players he has played with but their qualities are different from what Leicester have at the moment.
Timothy Castagne, Ryan Bertrand, or a fit James Justin could be better alternatives as thy are all very pacy and of course using a three in the back as Denmark does from time to time in a 3-4-3 system might suit him better. He really shone in the 1-0 win vs. Austria which secured a grand place in the World Cup finals for Denmark.
Leicester need a player alongside Vestergaard that does the playmaker role and is a grand reader of the game and are not one that not goes for the duels in the air, as we all know is the best skill and quality of Jannik Vestergaard.
To just sign Vestergaard and not take this into consideration looks a bit strange as the digital scouting system used should of course pick up such challenges when signing a player.
Jannik Vestergaard is one of only 13 players said to be fit for inclusion in their next match coming up and we all know what type of forward skill Watford do have with King and Dennis being pacy alternatives.
