Claudio Ranieri managed to get Cagliari back up in Serie A in front of this season with some sensational results in the play-off, surprisingly seeing them win promotion.
They are just one place above the relegation zone, but still a draw and a win in their two last games showes that it can be possible to survive.
The job of Claudio at Cagliari is a clever act. In the summer he had to see players such as Raul Bellanova, Alessio Cragno, Sebastian Walukiewicz and Alberto Cerri leave, but with a total of €15m of sales it was possible to get new players in. Mateusz Wieteska, Matteo Prati, Ibrahim Sulemana, Pantelis Hatzidiakos, Christian Travaglini, Tommasso Augelo, Simone Scuffet and Allessandro Di Pardo. Ranieri also made loan signings in Andrea Petagna, Jakub Jankto, Gaetano Oristiano.
So of course a lot of changes in the squad from what it looked like after that fantastic promotion push. This season has also seen a lot of the squad being used as injuries problems have given Claudio Ranieri a challenge in picking his best eleven.
Claudio Ranieri do have a blend of young and old, and in the recent 2-1 win at home to Bologna, Petagna and Alifiori scored the goals. Another player of importance is forward Lapadula, He has just played 7 league games this season, scoring one goal.
Claudio is fighting for a club that he also had fond memories in the past, being Cagliari manager also from 1988 to 1991. When he joined Leicester in 2015, he had just left his position as national coach of Greece.
Since leaving Leicester in 2017 he has continued to work in football, being in charge of Nantes, Fulham, Sampdoria, Watford, Roma and Cagliari.
The now 72 year old, looks to be able to get his team forward, and of course having a bag of fond memories with him.
