In Both Camps; MLS

A number of former and current foxes have  played over the pond in the MLS. The league in North America started in 1996, 24 years ago. A number of clubs have appeared and we will find a great number of foxes who have also appeared in the MLS.

Kasey Keller played his last games in football with Seattle Sounders. The US international played for “Sounders” from 2009 to 2011, in his early 40’s at the time, and he was part of the team winning the Lamar Hunt US. Open, US oldest soccer competition, running since 1914.

Portland is a city in the region of Seattle, north west in the USA, and that’s were Kasey Keller started his career, and there are several teams during history adopting Timbers as part of their name, though the Timbers team of today started in 2009, and in that team Jack Barmby had a number of seasons out here, staying from 2016 to 2018, later played in the 2nd tier of the pyramid with San Antonio FC and Phoenix Rising.

Sean St Ledger is also a player with a past in the MLS playing at prominent club Orlando City SC, alongside Brazilian legend Kaka, St. Ledger later had a spell with Colorado Rapids. He played in the MLS for two years appearing in a total of 27 appearances.

Danish goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen did never play a single league game for Leicester City, and the former Aalborg legend, moved back to Denmark, and after a good period with Vejle tried his luck with great success in the MLS with Sportling Kansas City playing 128 league games while with the club and winning a number of major trophies. He is today still in the US and at present coach with Hartford Athletic.

Jordan Stewart had a successful stay with Vancouver Whitecaps, playing there from 2013 to 2016, he has since moved to Phoenix Rising. Ade Akinbiyi has also been over the pond and played 13 league games for Houston Dynamo.

Steve Guppy had a long career also appearing in the MLS with DC United. He also represented Rochester Rhinos at USL level. Peter Canero also moved over the pond and played for New York Red Bulls, appearing in just 9 games before he retired, this was back in 2006.

Other players to have appeared in US soccer are Stefan Oakes and Stuart Campbell, playing for FC New York and Tampa Bay Rowdies.  Going back a number of years you had players representing Leicester City turning out in US in different teams during the NASL era.
