Enzo Maresca looks to be close to get Leicester over the line for a direct promotion, picking up 6 points from the two recent home games vs. West Brom and Southampton. The team have found their rythm back, but strangley it’s done with much less possession and in a counter attacking style.
The Enzoball approach has been heavily questioned by Leicester fans as being monotone and static. Enzo Maresca has also said he would leave if he has to adjust. A return to Spanish football can be next for the Italian, being linked to both the Sevilla and Barcelona position.
With what has gone on behind the schenes at the club and possible sanctions for next season, the job could be difficult and a struggle. Enzoball would be even more difficult to come to terms with a level above, without the quality in players needed.
Leicester fans do demand goals and football are goals, everything else have little or no relevance for this special fanbase. We have seen hostile behaviour in the past towards a number of Leicester managers as well as turning against Enzoball when it appear locked.
Enzo Maresca has a close relation to Sevilla, being an iconic player at the club, as well as their assistant manager in a period. Barcelona hit the wall in the Champions League quarter finals last week as their current manager, Xavi, is ready to leave his post. Enzo Maresca has been mentioned as one on a list of possible candidates.
Should Barcelona or Sevilla come forward with an offer, we would certainly believe Enzo Maresca will be considering that option, but there is not just flashlight and lafter at these two clubs either, both far from their previous level.
TCF is looking at the Enzo Maresca project as one lacking stability and getting performances to a level of the most fantastic heights, playing far from possession orientated, and at the same time slow and without a way out against weaker opponents. The risk taking in the back looks folish when you at times have to throw or shoot the ball out in the wilderness and this is far from waterproofed.
This is of course a difficult act, but we still believe Leicester could have seen the last of Enzo Maresca after the season, even if promotion is achieved. His life in football is switches and turns, moving in and out of different clubs and countries, as a player, coach and manager.
Speculations will continue until either Leicester ownership or the man himself confirms differently. The best solution for the club is to see Enzo Maresca continue, but he still have to adjust his plan and approach. Adapting and using every element available to reach a winning solution, must be the goal.
What we have seen in the two last games are players playing with a bit more freedom and players need that freedom to stop thinking and just go on with it as their ability in each position always will be the most important.
