Leicester will face Peterborough in their first pre-season game coming up on Saturday the 5th of July. The game will be streamed live at You Tube and Foxes Hub. As always, you will get our Match Report.
This post is one concentrating on the opponent in this first pre-season game. Peterborough are often competing above their own weight. Leicester have previously played The Posh in leauge action. A club with a special and iconic life in football.
Their manager Darren Ferguson is as we all know, the son of the legendary Sir Alex. Darren is now in his fourth spell as manager of Peterborough United. He has been in charge since January 2023. His previous spells were from 2007 to 2009, then back in 2011, leaving in 2015. His third stint lasted from 2019 to 2022. He has also been manager at Preston and Doncaster.
Darren Ferguson steared The Posh to a trophy win last season, defeating Birmingham 2-0 in the FLT finale at Wembley. Goals from Harley Mills and Hector Kyprianou settled the score. They managed to keep their place in League One ending 16th last season.
Peterborough will play Leicester and Stamford in their first games in their pre-season campaign. An interesting local match vs. Peterborough Sports will take place on the 15th of July. The Turbines are currently competing in National League North.
More games are scheduled against Boston United, King’s Lynn Town, MK Dons, Colchester and Grimsby. A proper pre-season game schedule is prepared. They aim to get in the best shape possible for their league opener vs. Cardiff away on the 2nd of August.

No one can talk about Peterborough United without mentioning co owner Barry Fry. He is in fact one of the “Busby Babes” being a youngster at Man Utd. This connection might explain why Barry Ferguson has returned to Peterborough so many times. Both Fry and Ferguson have their special roots at Old Trafford.
Barry Fry once scored a goal for England Schoolboys in front of nearly 100,000 supporters at Wembley and was seen as the best player in the team. He went on to sign for Manchester United as an apprentice but never played for the first team.
Fry has turned 80, but still very active, having the post as Director of Football at Peterborough. He was very much in the picture in that special Wembley appearance last season.
Looking at their squad of players, and their summer transfer activity we have noticed the following. They made a sale of £5 million just as we passed the 1st of July mark. They sold two young and talented players. Defender Emmanuel Fernandez moved to Rangers, forward Malik Mothersille joined Stockport. The fee for Fernandez confirmed to be £3,5million. Mothersille moved for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £1,5million.
Their chairman Darragh MacAnthony took to social media. He insisted his club should remain the go-to club for young footballers with ambition. It’s also fair to say the reputations of Darren Ferguson and his coaching staff have been enhanced. Additionally, 80-year-old director of football Barry Fry could be forgiven. Posh fans have a similar life experience to Leicester fans. The Posh sometimes have failed to extend the contracts of key players. Players have at times subsequently left London Road for a relative low fees, or even for nothing.
This summer Kwame Poku has moved to Queens Park Rangers. Midfielder Hector Kyprianou joined Watford. Ricky Jade Jones has also packed his bag and moved to Bundesliga club St. Pauli. All of these players are moved on as free agents, according to Transfermarkt.
On the other side, The Posh have seen former Leicester defender Sam Hughes in a return from his loan spell at Stockport. Declan Firth is an exciting recruitment, coming in from Switzerland, signed from FC Thun. 20 year old former England U.17 international Brandon Khela has joined from Birmingham. They have also recruited forward Kyrell Lisbie from Braintree.
Looking at their squad at present, they have a number of interesting players. The two Swedes, defender Oscar Wallin and forward Gustav Lindgren are players with a past in top flight football. Jacob Wakeling is also part of their squad. Wakeling (23) left Leicester in 2022 to join Swindon. He joined Peterborough a year later, spent last season on loan at Gillingham. One also to notice is new goalkeeper Alex Bass, coming in from Notts County.
19 year old Harley Mills will be one to keep an eye on if playing. The youngster is a player who is yet to have his full breakthrough, but the goal scored vs. Birmingham in the FLT final surely gave him large attention. A full back earlier being mentioned as a potential signing for Leicester but still a raw diamond that could get a full blossom this season.
