The Case for Starting Jeremy Monga at Leicester City

Jeremy Monga is a player Leicester manager Marti Cifuentes can’t overlook. His involvement vs. Birmingham showed how he can change a game of football.

Seeing him on the bench at Kassam Stadium yesterday was a shocking experience. He was overlooked and not used in a match where he was heavily needed.

He is a massive talent and better than all the players in the Leicester squad. Seeing him warming the bench is a mutiny. Marti Cifuentes must understand this important fact. Every time this player is not getting minutes on the field, it diminishes his ability to perform. This impacts his performance when the next game comes around.

Watching Jeremy Monga is like watching Pelè. Pelè was a class act at just 16 years of age. We first saw him in the 1958 World Cup. Monga has a special balance and movement. He also possesses a silky touch. This should earn him a place in the team. He must start the next game.

Seeing him on the bench after some fantastic performances for England U19 shows a lack of football know-how. Giving minutes to Patson Daka, Bobby De-Cordova Reid and others in front of Monga is close to madness. If this continues, Jeremy Monga will be gone in January. Maybe that is what the speculations are about. Selling him to Real Madrid, Chelsea or Man City, just having him available until the January transfer window. This can be the only explanation as other players also need game time to keep performing.

Jeremy Monga is 16 years of age, he is playing for England U19. That is a strong recognition. He should be in this Leicester team every time a game is played. In the three games for Three Lions in early September, England drew 2-2 with Spain, they defeated Holland, 4-1 and Ukraine 2-0. Monga played the second half against Holland. He came on the 69th minute vs. Spain. He played from start vs. Ukraine, playing 70 minutes. The reports from these games are just major positives. Seeing him overlooked at Oxford was one massive negative.

This is frustrated to watch as Leicester struggles to get wins on board. No league game so far has been a fluid and strong performance. Jeremy Monga should be in the team every day of the week. No other player at Leicester possesses his talent and skills, not even Abdul Fatawu.
