Leicester City: Has Marti Cifuentes Lost His Blue Tinted Glasses?

This morning, we listened to the enjoyable “Good Morning Foxes” program on the Blue Tinted Glasses You Tube channel. It provides us a view on what certain fans think. It also shows what they believe will be the correct answers. A surprisingly comfy atmosphere 😊. Those in the panel differ in opinion, as we all do. Some dream about Ange Postecouglou, others rather like to continue with Marti Cifuentes.

The fan panel this morning was a good one. It had people of different ages. They all had different ideas and thoughts, but also agreed on a few. To make this channel a trusted source of quality information, more like this is needed. This provides a base for fans’ opinions both abroad and at home. Hopefully, they will do more of this. Following most sources of updates on Leicester, we do believe this is a channel with huge potential. They have bits and pieces of great content. We have seen a few transfers and loans on this channel. They also bring in guests as those on screen can be seen on other fan channels as well. But all in all BTG mirror the fanbase of Leicester in a brilliant way.

We do agree in a lot of what is said. Aaron Ramsey and Jordan James are quality players, no doubts about that. But those two are very young and not really leaders at this point. Jacub Stolarczyk is also young, so is Luke Thomas. Jannik Vestergaard and Ricardo Pereira are both important players. However, they are not at a perfect age to bring stability long term. They are not the players to run this project forward in the next four or five seasons. Marti Cifuentes faces a lot of difficulties. He has not won a game since that great away victory vs. Swansea back in early October.

Ramsey out at the moment, and no one to replace him. Jordan James is a box to box midfielder, Aaron Ramsey is an offensive option. At the moment Leicester’s best defensive option in midfield is Hamza Choudhury. He is not playing. Harry Winks, Bouba Soumare, and Oliver Skipp are somewhat hybrid players. They do not really fit the pattern of Marti Cifuentes, when talking midfield players.

Up front we have suggested a rotation. Yesterday at least, Stephy Mavididi had chances in front of goal. He comes into those situations that will see him potentially scoring. Abdul Fatawu and Jeremy Monga for sure are players who can perform at this level. Julian Carranza, Patson Daka and Jordan Ayew need to be moved on. However, having them around will be difficult. They are all out of contract in the summer. These players do not fit Marti Cifuentes and his type of football. The one looking the best option at the moment is Patson Daka. However, I would rather have Stephy Mavididi, Jeremy Monga, and Abdul Fatawu up front. They are all better goalscorers and players than Ayew, Daka and Carranza.

Hamza Choudhury appears to be overlooked as an alternative in the defensive midfield role. He is the best option in there with Ramsey and James. Choudhury can battle and tackle. Harry Winks is an option, but looks far from the business. This team is in transition.

Currently, this Leicester project looks very similar to what it was when Nigel Pearson joined the club for his second period. The project under NP had a slow start as well, using two seasons to get it complete.

Nigel Pearson played Portsmouth on the last day of 2011. Leicester managed a 1-1 draw at home, sounds familier. The Line up; Schmeichel, Peltier, Mills, Bamba, Konchesky, Wellens, Abe, King, Gallagher, Schlupp, Nugent, Subs: Howard, Dyer, Beckford, Weale, Danns.

On the last day of 2012, Leicester played Burnley away, winning 1-0. The Line up: Schmeichel, De Laet, Morgan, Moore, Konchesky, Marshall, Drinkwater, James, Dyer, Knockaert, Nugent, Subs: King, Logan, Waghorn, Keane, Gallagher, Schlupp, Futacs.

If you look at the two line-up’s a number of players are changed. Peltier, Mills, Bamba, Wellens, Abe, Weale, Beckford, Danns, Howard all shipped out. That are eight changes from a year back.

Marti Cifuentes is a man who is far from afraid of transition. He will do rotations and changes as we have seen. From his past we do know he can do this just to show everyone what his troubles are. To play Victor Kristiansen yesterday was such a decision. He did give Luke Thomas minutes as he believe in him. During his time at Sandefjord Fotball he made more than 40 transfers in and out. We do know that he is risking results to test his environment at the moment. He gives certain signals to show everyone what is needed to do. However, his decision making at the moment is on a very thin line.

We all know that the next two to three games will be of great importance for Marti Cifuentes. At this point, the squad and project look far from settled. Pereira is a puzzle so far. Yesterday, he looked in progress. doing good runs and looking sharper. We hope he can peak his performances going forward.

Let’s hope this build and setup will deliver results. It looks fragile at the moment and far from concrete. His chopping and changing suggest he does not have full control at the moment. Hopefully Marti Cifuentes will find his blue tinted glasses, put them on, and push forward in the correct direction. We are waiting for the next game to come around as fast as possible. Leicester back in action on Tuesday, playing Middlesbrough at home.
