Leicester women had a last chance to save the season and stay up. The play-off spot was there for grabs, travelling down to The Valley to play Charlton.

The game was dull and with little chances, the ball being played in and around, with a number of half chances for both teams. Charlton scored in the game, but the goal was disaloved being offside.

The game went to penalties after extra time. Leicester’s young and talented goalkeeper, 19 year old Katie Keane showed her worth with brilliant saves in the penalty shoot out, but so did Charlton’s Sophie Whitehouse.

Leicester had their chances, but with Noemi Mouchon missing her attempt, the game ended as it did. Another relegation to register for Leicester this season. Everything looks dark at the moment, not really understanding the downfall this club is experiencing at the moment.

In the game Sari Kees, Olivia McLoughlin, Katie Kean and Sam Tierney were good in the game, in real being dominated by Leicester. But the final

Also good in the Leicester team today was the two subsitutions, Ashley Neville and Emily Van Egmond. It was not enough pressure put on the Charlton team, who fought hard for all minutes, having their best player in the goalkeeper who in real saved them today.

Leicester has not managed to build a foundation and structure that was good enough for top flight football, not competing at this level at all this season. This is of course a sympton of the club at the moment and it goes back to leadership and how they have sacked one manager after another over the previous seasons, for women as well as the mens team.

The rotation of players in the women team have also been massive and it will possibly continue with a lot of players uncertain of their future. The management team has not either managed to build a good enough momentum, having a season far from acceptable.
