Russell Martin has a lot of interest around his three defenders Caleb Okoli, Wout Faes and Harry Souttar. All three are potential players to leave before the transfer window close.

We believe if the asking price for each player is reached more than likely that all three will be leaving. Having Ben Nelson also out long term, due to a knee injury, new players could be recruited.

One that has cought attention is Republic of Ireland international Mark McGuiness. He is currently at Sheffield United and was in their starting line-up vs. Birmingham when they drew 0-0 in the EFL Championship season opener.

McGuinness made his Republic of Ireland debut on 17 November 2024, starting in their loss to England. He has previously played for Luton, Sheffield Wednesday, Cardiff and Ipswich, graduated from Arsenal’s academy and moved on from there in 2021.

He joined Sheffield United almost a year ago, having played 26 league games for The Blades. He is seen as a player that could be part of a package sending Harry Souttar the opposite way, after they have made formal bids for the Leicester defender.

According to the report from Josh Holland from Leicestershire Live, Mark McGuiness is a likely target for Leicester, hopefully that is one that can come in be part of a promotion push next season.

There are also other names in contention, having seen Rangers and Scotland international John Souttar strongly linked. The brother of Harry Souttar, is at the moment seeking new opportunities and been linked with Leicester for a long period of time.

Another name that have turned up is Tottenham youngster Malachi Hardy. A young defender who has impressed heavily in pre-season.

What Leiceser must avoid is again to be out balance, having players not really in their correct setting and being added just to fill out the numbers as we have seen in the past.
