A campaign is launched for blue plaque honouring Halifax’s Frank Worthington. He is also one of Leicester City’s greatest heroes of all time. Leicester City Supporters Club Scandinivian Branch decided to donate £100 to the course, and hopefully

Frank is believed to be the town’s only England-capped international footballer, and made more than 800 career appearances, scoring over 250 goals for clubs including Leicester City, Bolton Wanderers and Leeds United. He was capped eight times by England.

For those of us growing up in this time, Frank Worthington inspired many to support Leicester City. He played at Filbert Street from 1972 to 1977, scoring 72 goals in 210 league games. All 8 of his England caps were earned while playing for Leicester, with his debut in 1974 against N Ireland.

The cost of the plaque is £650, hopes are that the campaign can reach £1000. Hopefully the gift from Leicester fans in Scandinavia will be significant to get this done.

The Halifax Civic Trust, working with the Worthington family in this matter, any surplus will go to the Alzheimer’s Society’s Sport United Against Dementia.

Frank Wortington died in 2021 from Dimentia.
