Conor Hourihane has left his position as Leicester assistant manager. He has been in the job for just 4 months, arriving shortly after Russell Martin was appointet team manager.

Hourihane (35) had just left the Barnsley manager job, stepping down from that role in April. He took over that position earlier in the season, being named League One manager of the month in November, a year ago.

Hourihane has gone pubic, not giving much clue on why he was leaving, but saying in his statement that he looks to his next position, not telling us any secret on what that is or when.

When a newly appointent member of the first team coaching staff leaves after such a short time, with no new job announced, you can of course draw your conclusions.

Russell Martin has spoken on the matter, saying it is no big drama and that he will not do any additions, could change at some point, but at the moment they will leave it as it is and rely on the support from Steve Morison.

Russell Martin continued, saying Conor Hourihane has been approached for full management positions, and it could be easier to get those over the line being free and not attached to any club. He might have a new job lined up, who knows, with a number of clubs no changes managers and coaching staff. But so far no news in that direction.

Conor Hourihane has a solid career behind him as a player, playing at Aston Villa, Plymouth, Derby and Barnsley in different spells. He also played 36 times for Ireland, before moving to coaching. Still a young man in the trade of coaching, so we will wait and see were he ends up.

In the summer when Russell Martin took over it was believed that his assistant manager at Rangers, Matt Gill, would be joining, but he remained at West Bromwich and never moved with Martin to Leicester.

This looks a permanent change and something that will reduced the manpower in total, but hopefully not stop Leicester from progressing, we will wait and see if someone is moved to the assistant role or if Martin just continues without that role in place.
