Premier League finished last week, and you believed that this summer would be one with a nice break and the sunny beach as next destination for Leicester City footballers, But no, the action just continues.
Gareth Southgate will take England to the finals of the Nations League early next month, and despite not being part of the initial 27, speculations today will not 100% rule out a comeback for Jamie Vardy, who are available, with Harry Kane still not fit and probably not able to make it as early as the 6th of June when England play Netherlands in the semi-finals of the Nations League.
Two Leicester City players are among the initial 27. Ben Chilwell and Harry Maguire both looks certain to also be among the 23. The fact that Jamie Vardy has been in great form and is the top English goalscorer in 2019, could tempt Southgate to make a call and talk to Vardy about a possible comeback.
Vardy said that he would consider doing just that with an emergency situation happening and being without Harry Kane is certainly something that could be seen as a situation regarded as that. But as we have seen in the past, it might be “not happening”, but again would be great if it did.
Portugal will name their squad on the 23rd of May with a possible chance for both Adrien Silva and Ricardo Pereira to feature. They have both shown great signs at Monaco and Leicester in recent weeks, so could be handed a place.
Cristiano Ronaldo will be back, and we just have to wait and see if Silva and Pereira also will be in the mix. The Nations League finals will be a thrill to watch. This is a new and great way to keep the excitement for international football alive.
Harry Maguire and Ben Chilwell are as you would imagine a duo in demand, but with long term contracts and a settled place in the Leicester City team under Brendan Rodgers, not really seen as “on the move”.
Manchester City are keen on both, according to recent rumors. But with the experience for Riyad Mahrez, they might both be reluctant to a move as they would get competition and not being totally certain of a starting position week in and week out.
Danny Simpson and Shinji Okazaki are out, both being released by the club. Rumours are that both players will continue life in England, with Stoke, Fulham and Huddersfield among former clubs to have been linked with the duo.
The most interesting transfer scenario is the one regarding Youri Tielemans. Negotiations are said to be started with news that Caglar Suyuncu and Adrian Silva could be part of a possible switch and then downsize the fee of money.
A total of £40 million is what is expressed as the amount to be paid, and that would in itself break the Leicester City transfer record of a player coming in. Manchester United and Tottenham are both also linked with Tielemans, but it looks as if Leicester City are the front runners.
Other players to turn up in the rumor mill this weekend as possible targets, are Rennes forward Ismaili Sarr and AC Milan attacking midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu. Both quality players with great skills and of course in the right age.
