Liverpool 3, Leicester 0, positives and negatives, player ratings, and match report

This was the time to get a result at Anfield, and it was again a team picked with a defensive approach, though both Marc Albrighton and Harvey Barnes started and they both played a bit out of position and it never worked, both players delivered below avarage. A tribute to Ray Clemence before the game, who passed away this week, the former rival of Peter Shilton and father of Stephen Clemence, two players we fondly remember from Leicester City.

Leicester started everything in a positive way and it looked quite good until Jonny Evans decided to head the ball into his own net. A silly mistake by an experienced defender, but his tally of own goals are starting to get to numbers that makes this a problem to address.

Leicester had their chances, but great attacking play from Liverpool and a brilliant header from Jota just before half time made this game a lost one as it was no doubt about which team that had their best day out on the green grass.

Leicester tried their best but a well prepared Liverpool team, without Salah or Henderson, and without Van Dijk in the back, didn’t really suffer much as Leicester’s attempts were few with one Barnes and one Vardy chance, but not clear goal scoring chances.

Youri Tielemans tried his best and was creative in midfield, but with players such as Albrighton, Barnes and Evans far below their best, you will not win any games away at Anfield, it’s a difficult place to go and you have to be on your best.

Brendan Rodgers tried to make a couple of changes, letting Under and Praet coming on for Fuchs and Barnes, but that was not a success as the two never managed to make any big difference, and it was instaed Firmino that settled the score in the 86th minute with his fine finisher.

Leicester are now 4th in the table, and they need to get back on the horse for the next game coming up, but as we all know, this was probably the most difficult game of the season, so not very disappointed after this one.
