Last night Leicester defeated Leeds 1-0 in PL2 with a good performnce from especially goalkeeper Brad Young and overaged midfielder Papy Mendy.
We all know that Papy Mendy was close to leaving Leicester in the transfer window with a possible move to Galatasaray falling through.
But still a bit surprised that a player that signed a new contract last summer to be staying at the club and also had a good impact when playing last season, no longer is part of future plans.
Embed from Getty ImagesSadly the squad logistic looks a bit strange at the moment and no doubt that Papy Mendy still have the quality to be a cover for Ndidi as well as Tielemans, but the reason behind the decision is the inclusion of Soumare and Dewsbury-Hall.
So why a player that still has almost two years left on his contract, can’t make it into the first team squad for Premier League and Europa League might just have to do with the deal of his loan move not going through as he never managed to land in Turkey on time, believed to have agreed to the move after being with Senegal on internatinal duty.
To have Mendy in there in the U.23’s will be of great strength and hopefully bring in the points needed to keep it going in the top flight of this competition also next season.
Many believe that the U.23’s are a bit soft at the moment, and with a lot of very young players in there so to have Mendy to select is of course good in that perspective. We are not surprised if Papy Mandy is gone during the January transfer window and Hamza Choudhury might be on his way out as well, with too many first team alternative players still at the camp today.
